Guest guest
Hi, Well in India - what about 'neem-hakims' and self styled, self portayed and self called HIV care specialists. I have heard of a physician who has only seen HIV+ caes in his pvt practice last couple of years and is today regarded as a respectable expert in the area. Given the experience and exposure, such people need to incorporated and encouraged into the system of sharing their knowledge. Why not have a MD course in Infectious diseases at the univarsity level as a sub speciality of MD. Are we prepared to let our MBBS qualified doctors practicing in villages and small towns treat HIV+ with HAART and other drugs. Well, that may lead to a situation, where in like the NTP of common ATT/AKT being advocated, yet you find physicians in private following different schedules. Same goes for anti malaria regime. How many physicians follow the WHO/NMEP schedule. True of ORS formula as well. Every pvt practicner would meet the criteria of having treated 25 hIV+ patients at some time or the other.
