Giselle, I have had some upper left quadrant pain that comes and goes. I have asked my doctors about it and so far they just think it is from the surgery site, i.e. scar tissue and stuff. The last blood tests that I have had show do abnormalities in any of the levels so they have ruled out gall bladder and pancreas issues. I did not have this after my first surgery only after the second surgery.

I am glaad you are recovering well from your surgery and I hope you keep improving.

hi everyone. i have been totally absent lately for a variety of reasons, but i just got around to posting the cost of the procedures i had at ucsf in the database here. i still don't know exactly what my insurance will cover and what i'll have to pay, so this just lists the billed amounts.in other news, here i am over 1 month after surgery and feeling pretty good! eating is ok so far, i just have to take it slow and drink lots of water. i even had a hamburger from in-n-out burger on saturday, and it was heaven. (of course, i took tiny bites, drowned it in sauce and ketchup, and had a ton of water, but the point is that it was possible!) the pain from surgery is pretty much gone, except when i laugh or sneeze really hard, i do still feel a little bit of...well, discomfort. i remember richard writing that he went to see a funny movie shortly after his surgery and regretted it, so i have been avoiding funny movies for the past few weeks. ;) but seriously, you would be surprised how much hard laughing can hurt!i had a little scare this week because i had lower abdominal pain on the right side and i had to go to the emergency room, where everyone was convinced that it was my appendix! (dr. patti told me to go to the ER and get it checked out, so that's why i went.) in the end, after days of poking and prodding, it's unclear what the pain was, but it was probably NOT my appendix because the pain has not escalated, i don't have fever, vomiting, etc. so that was a major annoyance, but it seems to be over now. all i have to show for it are terribly bruised arms, as my veins kept collapsing due to dehydration. pretty disgusting.i guess i am curious now -- did anyone else start to have trouble with their appendix, gallbladder, or anything similar after the operation? it must just be bad luck, but i am curious... another odd thing was that in the emergency room, 3 separate doctors asked me, "are you sure they didn't just take your appendix out during your myotomy?" i have no idea why they asked, as the locations are completely different. did anyone have their appendix or gallbladder out during their heller?!?!?giselle in san francisco
