Guest guest
I went to see my gastro on Tuesday afternoon. The appointment didn't go exactly as I had hoped. It appears I may or may not have Achalasia. While my gastro certainly thinks it looks like the beginning stages, after reviewing the manometry results with several other docs they just can't be sure. The manometry showed 0% esophogeal motility, but all other readings were within normal ranges. He said that if it was truly achalasia, the pressure readings would have been much higher that mine were. He took a bunch of blood to run a host of tests for auto-immune or thyroid disorders and scheduled me for an endoscopy. He really wants to get in there and see what everything looks like. He also talked about repeating the manometry a couple of months down the road. (Oh joy) In the meantime, he said I should try a low dose of amitriptyline to see if that helps relax things. I am actually doing ok with eating this last few weeks as long as I take the Nexium twice a day. If I miss one, I have troubles. I just have to make sure I eat very small meals and chew the food very well. I've had only one bad night in the last few weeks. That's all for now. -Darla
