Guest guest
Hi JC, I have been taking Prevacid for several years and can't say that I can identify any specific problem. Three years ago I had a scare with possible Barrett's, but it turned out negative on the second biopsy. My GI Dr. told me that I would need to stay on the med for ever or my esoph. would become severely inflamed again. About a month ago I went off of the Prevacid as the RX went up by $30. After about a week I began to get a burning pain that intensified each day, I felt like the esophagus was swelling and swallowing began to be a problem. Soooo.... I bit the bullet and went back on the Prevacid and everything cleared up in a few days. Actually I feel better now than I have for sometime. I have thought of asking for Prilosec as it is now available generically, but I understand it is not as affective. Anyway that's my story regarding Prevacid. Ed Hi All, I thought I would just check in and let you know I am still alive. " grin " . I heard an interesting radio program yesterday and I thought I would pass it on. I don't know who it was, but it was a national program on NPR. It was a doctor taking calls and someone called in to ask about Prevacid. She said that Prevacid caused as many problems as it helped. Of course we know it stops all digestion and that causes problems but she said " It is a well know FACT that one serious side effect of Prevacid is that it causes the " E " to swell. I don't know why any physician would prescribe Prevacid especially for achalasia, ulcer or barrets " E " patients " Has anyone ever heard this before? I have not, but I do have trouble with Prevacid. She went on to say that a better alternative is to eat some kind of yogurt with live cultures and some sort of whole grain fiber at every meal. This was her answer to acid reflux. Just some food for thought. JC
