Looking at the present scenario in the country the need to held one national conference came forward. The idea of organizing such event was already introduced to most of our partners. It has been discussed with central health ministry as well as the state government. The appropriate venue for the meeting, dates and the agenda for the meeting is being discussed. Some of our partners had shown keen interest in organizing this event. The budget and other formalitites are in process. This is a note for you for suggestions and discussion. For the actual event we are planning to set on core committee. We had already made contact with some of the leading organization on this issue. Few of them had informally agreed to join hands with us. This is a concept paper for all of us for suggestions and new recommendation We wish your wholehearted support and active participation. Implementation of national policy for massive and effective awareness and preventive measures. Absence of space and forum available to address the epidemic at national level. The problem of the affected population is getting worse; youth is prime target.. Objectives: Understanding the epidemic and its realities in the Indian context. Obtain factual data and ground realities of HIV / AIDS in India. Listing out the common issues and difficulties in understanding the socio-cultural aspects of our society. Sharing of knowledge, experiences, awareness materials and resources. Possibilities to undertake common awareness programmes. Explore the possibilities to develop new strategies for access to care and support. To build strong national network to address mother to child transmission. To build a channel to ensure collective efforts with effective co-ordination. Explore the areas of future collaboration for public-private partnerships. Bring women and children to the centre stage of HIV/AIDS epidemic. Ensure people?s participation in all levels of planning and implementation. Outcome: Formation of national level forum to institutionize the sectoral partnership. Rationalization of policies. Immediate plan of action and responsibilities towards goal of 2007. Platform for dialogue, discussions, debate, policy level efforts and thinking. Participants: Medical experts and health workers, research professionals, NGOs, academicians, medical and pharmaceutical firms, experts, thinkers, opinion makers or community leaders, social workers, person living with HIV/AIDS. 1000 delegates are expected to attend. 50 international experts under the umbrella of IAS will participate.
