It has blurred a little for me, I would say the recovery time is about the same as you may have had in the past for a gall bladder removal, or something like that. It isn't that the pain is bad after a week or so, it is that you are just weak and tired. Since you are teaching, it wouldn't be the lifting etc., but just putting up with kids all day long would be rough. I don't know if it is the anesthesia, or what, but I was tired and went to bed early for about 6 months. Just vaguely remembering, I would say you are out of work for 4-6 weeks. The ports/exits aren't that large and heal fairly quickly, but a lot was done inside that you can't see. Also depends on your age and general health. I saw Chavez's son, Adam, three days after surgery and he was up and strolling, but he is 14. I barely made it to the bathroom and a shower was a huge event, but I was 47 at the time of surgery. Seems like we tend to have more spasms right after surgery and those settle down, depends on how you respond to those. If you used to stand all the time, I'd think you should sit more and take every chance to save your strength. Maybe I'm a woos, but it was like that after childbirth for me also.

However I have flexible hours and had the complete luxury of going ot bed if I was tired. I could have pushed myself more. But then again, I didn' have complications from this surgery, when I pushed myself after childbirth, I got infections and complications, so you want to be careful. It is such a treat to be able to eat and drink after surgery that you naturally gain strength just from the food. Even if you stay on soft food for weeks, you get healthier just from being able to eat

Hi! Dr. Rice did my surgery in '93..had ribs spread...was in hosp for

6 days. Post op I was way more sore than I thought I would be mainly

from chest tube that taken out before I left. Be careful getting up

and laying down. I ate no solids for 10 days. I did eat a burrito for

my first solid...got stuck...i got scared..everything was fine. Give

it time. Dr Rice is the best. I'm going to get dialated on jan

8th at cleve. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!

P>S> I followed no diet post op I did purely what I felt comfortable

with. I don't remember being told what to do.

Dawn,

I'm a little confused. If you had the surgery, why do you have the

need for a dilation? Is the surgery not permanent?

Thanks

Well, yes the surgery is permanent, but I would say that I have

benefitted from other dilations. When I had the surgery in " 93, dr

Ricter told me that they weren't cutting to muscle as agressively as

they do now. Hope that explains....at least my situation.

I had Dr Rice so the surgery and then for post surgery problems which

I didn't have for about 3-4 years....the swallowing difficulty was

MILD, but rice referred me to Richter. He did 2 endoscopies and a

stomach study and then he left for Temple and now I have Dr Achkar.

My last pneumatic dialation was in 2002. I am going to get another

one Tuesday....8:30. WOOT!

Did Dr. Achkar do your surgery or dialate you? Don't know too much

about his experience.

Thanks

I hope I don't have any problems.. I do hate that numbing spray

though. I feel like my throat is closing up. :(

I'll do fine and I'll have my hubby there for support. And to kick me

in the but to get up. Plus I have the xray after so I am guessing I

will be somewhat aware.......yeah...I hope so.
