Guest guest
Kris I know I don’t chime in much anymore!! But when Dr. Rice did my surgery in 02 he also did a procedure to widen the opening from my stomach to my small intestines to help with emptying. I think for this reason is why I get hungry so quickly after eating. It never caused me any other problem then that. But it is nice that my little bit of food doesn’t stick around for hours after eating…or I’d never get hardly enough calories to sustain myself. now in Arkansas From: achalasia [mailto:achalasia ] On Behalf Of The Kovalciks Sent: Friday, January 04, 2008 6:23 AM achalasia Subject: DGE Hi friends, I think my nccp's may be due to delayed gastric emptying. My daughter has this, too, but from her mitochondrial disease (or so we thought, I guess...????....). Anyway, I started taking Reglan and it has helped move things along and my chest pain has been much less. Does anyone else deal with this? Thanks, kk P.S. I haven't wanted to chime in about Dr. Rice but I wish I had known before my appointment with him on 12/20 about his lack of bedside manner! We have run into this in dealing with the many docs for my daughter, Ellie, but I wasn't prepared for this with Dr. Rice. I think just because he came so highly recommended from all of you I was just blown away! I understand he is smart, but if he could just get his points across a little more gently...??... Guest guest
Kris I had many other complications due to the hack job I got from the first surgeon. My fundoplication was to tight and my myotomy was not done correctly, so my food sat at the bottom of my E just before my stomach and created kind of a pouch. Which was removed by Dr. Rice (the lower third of my E was removed) and everything was moved up! So my plumbing got rerouted! LOL. Because of this is why I think he did the other procedure, plus the fact that my stomach had shrank so much due to the lack of (if hardly any) food going to it! After the surgery..I was only able to eat about an ounce of food at a time, I’ve worked myself up to a Happy Meal amount and have stayed there for the last 4 years now, though when I got to a buffet I usually pay for it, because now if I eat to much it hurts to breath since my chest cavity shares my stomach now. Can’t say that, that side effect hasn’t helped my weight LOL!!! I got to put a lot of junk in me to gain weight now…umm which I have a really bad habit of…and caused my gall bladder to go south and had it removed. My surgeon for that said I basically killed my gall bladder on my own, since I was so use to putting high calorie and high fats down me it just couldn’t process it anymore, that is why usually gall bladder disease is seen in people that are heavy!! So I’ve been taking meds to help me with that..though I’ve noticed here lately (I’m on a health kick) that without the fatty and really high calorie foods things are working a little better shall we say!!! But yes I had all the symptoms that you mentioned! My story is a long one so I won’t go on anymore!!!! Hope this helps some!! in Arkansas now. Guest guest
WOW! I DEAL WITH THIS EVERYDAY! I take digestive enzymes with every meal. I took reglan at first but it made me sleepy. I told my doc I take the enzymes and he said...OH.. I got them at a supplement/organic store. They really work for me.
