Guest guest
Well As I sit here and write this short letter, I'm laying in a upmc hospital bed scheduled for an esophagectomy tomorrow morning. Dr. Luketich called yesterday morning at 7 a.m. and her I am at 4:00 on the 4th. There are things about rice that I cannot post publicly on this website. If you all have already had surgery and your doing great than I'm very happy for you all. I work in the OR's everyday as a first assist for a cardiothoracic surgeon. Believe me I know all the statistics and concerns verses low volume high volume centers. I know alot of surgeons and alot of different personalities. My personal opinion is only my own. I absolutely dont need a surgeon to be my friend but I expect one to listen carefully to my symptoms. I also expect when he finds something on a CT scan that could potentially kill me on the OR table to be told about it. He said he wasn't going to go chasing ghosts. I still had the right as a patient to know I had a tumor on my adrenal gland. If this had been a functioning tumor it could have been disasterous. A highly trained surgeon also knows better than to give someone versed if they are allergic to it. He chose to ignore the doctors letter and administer this medication anyway and caused the patient a highly allergic reaction. These are all factual problems among others I wont mention. So this terrific surgeon in my opinion is to full of himself sometimes to recognize his downfalls as an al-around good surgeon. Sure techniqually he may be well qualified but he only treats the findings of the tests not the patients or there symptoms. Again Just my own opinion. I hope you get everything worked out. I cant imagine what you must be going through.

Guest guest
Kris, Sometimes you have to go with your gut feeling about things (sorry, no pun intended) and trust your instincts. It sounds like your gut was telling you not to trust Dr. Rice. Did you get a better feeling from Dr. Luketich? Wow, that really was fast work in getting your test results transferred, a consult and getting scheduled for surgery! It sounded like you were definitely ready (you were feeling bad enough). I'm wishing you a successful surgery tomorrow and a speedy recovery!! If possible, please have a friend or family member post to us on how things are going for you. in Michigan > > Well As I sit here and write this short letter, I'm laying in a upmc hospital bed scheduled > for an esophagectomy tomorrow morning.
