Guest guest
Hey to everyone who's had the -ectomy done - how long afterwards did you take pain meds? I'm just over 3 weeks post op from my ectomy and 2 weeks from my other surgery and I only have probably 2-3 days left of pain meds. I tried late last week to cut back and take 1 dilaudid with one dose of tylenol and for 4-8 hours, when I was home alone and quiet I was fine but any longer than about 8 hours and I was hurting again. I'm just finding that if I take less than full dose every 4-6 hours, I don't move as well, my chest aches and I don't eat as well. I think I'm going to see my local doctor this week and maybe they can put me on something else - just so I don't stay too long on one narcotic. Any other suggestions? Appreciate anything you can help with. - in NC slept in my own bed last night with only extra pillows - it was VERY nice- I didn't realize how much I missed my husband's snoring next to me
Guest guest
, After my epidural came out in the hospital, and they got rid of my pain pump, I was on oxycodone when they discharged me. I forget exactly how long I used it for, but I only had the 'ectomy surgery without any real complications, and I used it at home as needed for probably 4 weeks. I found I didn't use it during the day that much, but by early evening into the night I did need it. I think part of that was because during the day I was home alone and could rest, but then late afternoon the kids would return home with my husband, and in dealing with them for a few hours I found myself doing too much, and would be in more pain by the evening. I would usually take a dose early evening and then again at bedtime. That being said, with the oxycodone I found that in the beginning at the hospital it would knock me out, but by the time I was home and taking it, a normal dose would ease the pain but not make me so tired. After a couple weeks I could easily see a tolerance being built u p. It's easy to see how people can get addicted to it. Once I was done with it I dumped whatever was left as I didn't need it. But, give that you had two surgeries I would think you definitely need something, especially with having kids and probably doing too much and more than you should as well. If you are in pain, do not feel bad asking for something to help with that. There are a lot of different pain meds out there, not all are heavy narcotics....see what your doctor can do for you, but if normal over the counter stuff isn't cutting it, then ask for something more.
