Guest guest
Hey guys! Thanks for giving me such wonderful and supportive replies. This group is so helpful. I want to be more clear this time, because I was very misinformed my last post as to what type of surgery I will most likely be having. I mentioned something about scar tissue removal and someone caught me on it and I am glad they did because I was confused as to what it was. I know now that the most likely surgery I will be having is the lap heller manometry. Now the doctor who diagnosed me with achalasia is Dr. Raoul from the hospital in Iowa City. Now he is not the surgon, but of course they want me to be operated on at Iowa City. I have been reading everyones posts and one thing is very common...MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A SPECIALIST WHO KNOWS HOW TO DO IT! With that being said my mom has also been reading the posts and she agrees that we need to look for more recognized specialists. From what I have read their is a new Doctor coming to Chicago who is very good, also we have looked into the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. We will be going to one of them for sure and not Iowa City. I also wanted to see what you guys thought of this. I have been reading the posts on the pH probe and making it comfortable. Well when Iowa City was running tests on me they had me do that overnight probe thing, and let me tell you I HATED IT! I started off not really eating or drinking anything just trying to sleep it off, but then I got super hungry. I'm not sure what I was thinking, but my mom and brother who were staying with me at the hotel brought a pizza from a place next door. I could'nt resist the temptation and gave in with just a little slice. Of course I threw it up. Usually when it happens its usually just throwing up a little bit and then being pretty good, but I was doing it very hard this time. I couldn't stop with the tube in my throat and got so frustrated I ripped the stupid thing right out. Well my mom got really worried and called the Doctor and informed him that it was no longer inside of me. She put him in the phone and he explained to me how valuable the results were and that he didn't want to scare me, but he said that if my acid production goes unnoticed it could lead to cancer (or something like that) well I told him that I absolutely couldn't handle it again and he said that I could go without it thankfully. I read someones post about how dumb this test is and that it isn't very accurate, did I make a mistake by not putting it back in? I am sorry for the length of this message, just wanted to give you guys and update and show everyone that I am still a member of the group (no I didn't get scared away! Thanks again everyone for your kind words! -Nick
