Guest guest
I am not sure what Kim means here... .>>Vinegar tastes acidic when going down but turns into an alkaline base after it hits the stomach<< but I would be cautious of any acid sitting in the esophagus, this can do as much damage as refluxing stomach acid, if it does not go down into the stomach. (pre myotomy typically) the acid levels of the HCL stomach acids are around a pH of 2. Vinegar has a pH level of 2.4-3.4 so mixed with the pH of 2 of the stomach acids it is still in the neighborhood of a 2.5 on the pH scale. Very acidic. Meanwhile, the Bile produced by the liver and secreted into the duodenum by the gall bladder is around an 8 on the pH level. It neutralizes the Chyme (pH of 6-7) as it enters the small intestine, and breaks up the fatty acids. An alkaline can burn as bad as an acid. That is why if kids get into bleach it is so dangerous, it burns up the esophagus going down. Sodium Lye has a very high alkaline rate. The pH scale goes from >1 to 14+ remember Chemistry? Notice the Milk of Magnesia and sodium bicarbonate.. here you can see the effectiveness of these two products!! No wonder Tums does so well! I had these spasms right after my balloon dilation, but they seem to be controlled by my taking vitamin B-12 tablets and a T of vinegar a day.
