Guest guest
Hi, Fellow Achalasians, There are so many disturbing things happening in my family right now, that my stress levels have finally gone way above and beyond my capacity to handle it all, and, so, here comes my Achalasia, too: trouble swallowing, really nasty this time, and loads and loads of chest pain and acid reflux. I take prescription Prilosec every morning and I take neurontin for neuropathy all over my right side and I am still having NCCP's and nasty pains right around my sternum. Any suggestions about how to control the reflux, anybody? I've really changed my diet (leaving out acidic foods and no coffee and a lot of shifts from meat to softer proteins, no eating too late in the early p.m., etc.). I had a bowl of matza ball soup with a girlfriend last night and, Man!, it was terrible trying to get any of it down. So, I quit. I wonder as if the saltiness of the broth was a real problem. I don't want to have another one of those nights, coughing, sputtering, bringing up junk from my stomach and coughing it out...etc. I really do think stress gets me going. I'm meditating and using prayer at night and in the morning to get myself calm and centered. But, really! these days, I've been having the worst symptoms since before I had my Hellers. Yeesh! (The family stuff involves a power of attorney problem over my family's estate...my Dad's ACCOUNTANT tried to take POA over everything, and then a real estate agent showed up and his wife blew her cool at my dear sister when my sister said we'd found a different agent to sell the property...jeesh! and then there's a lawsuit at the beach property area where I live...and my daughter got very sick and had to go to a facility up the coast, and...well, you get the picture! yeesh...!) Hey, soda at night seems to help a lot. I'll tell you what I could use some help with: I can't seem to get my acid reflux and the coughing to calm down at night when I finally get into bed, and Man! it really hurts. I've had something close to becoming Barrett's now for a year so I'd really like to tamp down on this current acid problem. Wish I had something for the pain, too. all best to everyone out there, Deborah P.S. to Ann, the Lilac Lady: They're all coming back now, all those trailers and commisary trucks for the movie folks and the Car du Jour up here in Malibu seems to be the Masserati, which, from what I've been seeing on the coast lately, is also the Car du Jour for crack-ups and crashes at about 5 a.m. when the Celebrities who drive them are just coming back from their fetes! The police up here are going to put up more celebrity check points for St. Pat's Day. Wow, I bet they'll be reeling 'em in! We've got a nice little Irish road house up here, that has, by the way, a great banana cream pie and THAT, I can tell you, I can eat! Yum-o-yum! If you are still having an acid problem you may need to increase the dose of medication. The problems swallowing could be from inflammation or stricture caused by the acid. Myotomy failures are sometimes the result of damage from acid. This is definitely something you want to take care of. (Like you didn't already know that.) notan
Guest guest
Deborah, I've had a lot of problems with coughing and reflux also. The reflux problem others have addressed but I had relief from the coughing by taking benadryl. I'm not sure why, discovered it by mistake, hope it helps you.[ I use generic] JeanieDeborah Lattimore <deborah_Lattimore@...> wrote: Hi, Fellow Achalasians, There are so many disturbing things happening in my family right now, that my stress levels have finally gone way above and beyond my capacity to handle it all, and, so, here comes my Achalasia, too: trouble swallowing, really nasty this time, and loads and loads of chest pain and acid reflux.
