I have been reading the posts and can see how important this support is to everyone here. Although I am new and don't "know" you all yet, I hope I can somehow offer my support. I am just learning about this disease but have been actively researching and educating myself. I hope to be able to contribute information to you all soon!!Yesterday I saw the surgeon who scheduled me for a Heller Myotomy and ? Dor fundoplication. I am trying to decide right now whether I should get a second opinion. He did not answer my question about how many Heller myotomies he has done when I asked him. He said, "I did one yesterday". He also did not directly answer my question when I asked about the long term success rate and what my next option would be. He seemed very "confident" and told me that I would be fine from this operation into my 60's... I am 40 now. From what I read not only here but also in the literature- this seems unlikely. I saw a surgeon at Lahey Clinic in Burlington Massachusetts. He is the chief of surgery there- Dr. Desmond Birkett. Any body heard of him? I saw on your recommended list a Dr. Rattner from Mass General Hospital. If anybody cares to share information about Dr. Rattner, I am thinking about asking him for a second opinion.I think my diagnosis is right but I want to make sure I am in the most experienced hands I can find.thanks in advancedawn Is your lingo strong enough to ace these new word puzzles from Live Search Games? Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for your welcome! I wish everyone here the best of luck!! This has honestly been such an invaluable resource for me the last few days!! I look forward to being a part of this group for a long time and hopefully through the other side of surgery soon with some insight to help others who need it. I know Isabella and are not in need of " advice " but a big bunch of well wishes never hurt anybody!! Good Luck Isabella and Get Well Soon !! Dawn > > Hi Dawn, > > Welcome!
