Guest guest
Isabella, You have been through so much in the last couple of years and I'm sorry to hear you're having more trouble! At the very least, you still have your J-tube to get some nutrition down (even though it's not working perfectly). Hang in there for tomorrow. I hope this dilation brings you LOTS of relief! Hugs, in Michigan > > Hi all, > I am freaking out a bit here, I am really getting scared. > Has anyone of you experienced the " new esophagus " being so closed with scar tissue that not even fluids go down anymore? I regurgitate even water. > Tomorrow is dilatation day and I've set my hopes on that one. I know it's not unusual to undergo one or more dilatations a week, my Dutch -ectomy friend had them twice a week soon after his -ectomy and he does fine now. I am hoping to get them on a thus frequent basis as well as of tomorrow, as this really is no way to recover. > As I regurgitated water a minute ago I got so scared. I wonder what will happen when the scar tissue has really grown the full round, if there's no opening left. Of course I don't know whether that's the case or not, but it sure feels that way. Will they have to do surgery then, or will they be able to open it while doing the gastro-endoscopy? Anyone have any experience on this one? > Boy oh boy, when will this thing finally come to a happy ending??? > Love, > Isabella >
Guest guest
Hi Isabella You are describing what has happened to me exactly!! That is why I had dilation last Thursday and four biopsies taken from the bottom of my new oesophagus. Have to see surgeon in two weeks to get results and we will discuss what to do next then. When I saw doc post OGD and dilation last week that was when he said that he wanted to see me in two weeks he also showed me a couple of photos that he took during the camera, imagine looking at a mushroom sideways on and that is what the inside of my new oesophagus looks like. It looks like I have developed wings of scar tissue down one side and this is what is closing me up and preventing me from swallowing food and water like you. As I said I have to see him in two weeks and I will bring this matter of scar tissue blocking my new oesophagus up with him and see what can happen next. I am so glad that I am not the only one to have this problem with my new O as it does worry me now. After the dilation and the sedation wore off the difficulty came back very suddenly. Keep in touch as I will. -Ectomy achalasians, help, I'm scared Hi all, I am freaking out a bit here, I am really getting scared. Guest guest
Hi , I can imagine you being happy not to be alone. You know, concerning the swallowing problems we're not alone here on the board at all, it's just that the cause of these problems differs from ours right now, in contrary to the past. I guess your swallowing problems even differ a lot from mine. This as yours are caused by scar tissueing, but as this recent scar tissue of yours has built up in the last 8 months, years after your -ectomy and needs to be tested whether or not it's benign. At the moment I am just 7 weeks post -ectomy, so the form of the scar tissue might be the same as yours and so is the result of the scar tissue on my swallowing. Yet, I am so gratefull for at the moment not needing to be scared for things to be benign! I've just tried to swallow some water again. I did succeed, I had to take baby sips and wait minutes and minutes for each sip to go down, I had to push them down with the all the power that's left in the muscles right below the chin and it hurts and makes me feel sick. At the moment I am off way worse then I was pre -ectomy, yet I know and trust this problem will be solved. I just fear how long that will take and the way it will be solved... , you know I'm thinking of you and feeling the same where it comes to the swallowing. I can not begin to imagine what it must be like to have to wait for the results of your biopsies on top of it all. I wish you all the strength you need these coming weeks. Guest guest
Hi Isabella, I experienced the very same thing immediately after my esophagectomy a web like stricture formed at the anastasmosis the connection between the stomach and the remaining esophagus) like I had numerous dilations finally they ordered a large balloon dilator to see if they could break the stricture loose it worked but not without a complication a small perforation of the esophagus it was minor however and healed on its own I had several dilations after that mainly to see if the stricture reformed, it did not and I have been fine since then that was in 1993. I hope your dilation goes well tomorrow. Wishing you the best. F.

Guest guest
Isabella, My thoughts are with you. I am so sorry you are having to go through all this. This morning I tried taking my huge calcium pill and it came right back up, but that is rare. I am now eating most everything, but the dumping continues. This is second dilation will really help you.You are going to be just fine. I am going away to the shore with my family for a few days and won't have Internet access, but you will be in my thoughts and prayers. I will check the board when I return.
