Guest guest
I mailed my payment yesterday. It should be there today. I'm excited about them 'cause my sis and I were in K-Mart a few days ago and she pointed at one of those pre-done Christmas gift packs and said that she would love something like that from Mikey. It was none other than 3 fancy little bottles of spices. I'm going to make up some labels on sticky paper and she can choose what spices she wants to put in them, but I think I'll fill a few and put in a few full bottles of spices into the basket I make up for her along with some other cooking goodies. Did have to stumble to the bathroom LOTS first night with IV fluids going in and I felt bad for my poor room mate who was close to the bathroom.... maybe a tube would not have been so bad There is another good reason for preventing the need to get up during those first hours. Some people become nauseated from the drugs when they stand. The nurses decided to change my bedding and I got the heaves after standing up. The good side to it was that it didn't feel as bad as you would think because I was on all those drugs. notan
Guest guest
On the advice of a neurologist, I try to eat and drink things that are hot or cold. The more extreme temperatures seem to stimulate swallowing. This is also true for spicier foods. Alana
Guest guest
Hi Maggie, A few years ago I had a scare that brought up the feeding tube issue. A doctor left me unnecessarily intubated for 5 days and my swallowing just quit on me. I refused to consider a tube as it was so sudden and not a natural progression of my SMA. I did the ekectronic stimulation therapy and also a bunch of swallowing exercises with a speech therapist. The combo worked well and I can swallow again, though not as well as I used to before it happened. Go for it. You have nothing to lose but a tube! If you want, I can describe the exercises to you later. Gotta run now! Blessings, Ellyn > > Hello, > > I just wanted to know how do you guys feel about getting a feeding tube or/and a trachea? > > I'm not swallowing well and the test I had done last week showed that I aspirate thin liquids and anything thicker gets stuck in my throat. > > So, the recommendation I got was to either get a feeding tube down my nose or cut me stomach open and places a tube there. > I am supposed to be on a strict " nectar consistency " diet, which at present only includes soda pop and Ensure. I called my MDA Neurologist and he told me that he doesn't blame me for not wanting a feeding tube or any other tubes because they are " rather unpleasant. " > > There is an option to try a swallowing therapy which consists of my throat being zapped with electrodes to strengthen my swallowing muscles. Has anyone ever had that therapy? Does it work for SMA-2 people? Is it safe? Or could it make it worse? > > As of now, I refuse to get any holes in me that I wasn't born with... excluding my pierced ears, of course. > > Any other options out there that I am not aware of ? > > > God Bless, > Maggie > > >
