Guest guest
, If you are supposed to be there at 8am as well, we won't have much planning to do since we will probably both be sitting around in the waiting area together to get called back for our scopes. Just look for the other person with a matching neck scar. How funny. They must just tell everyone to get there at 8 and they just prep us and line us up for him to scope...like taking a number at the deli counter. LOL I will try to give you a call in the next day or two - any times that are good over others? I am at work during the day, but can talk with no problem. Evenings are fine as well, although not always the best for me because I have my two boys running around. Looking forward to meeting you! You know how he is.LOL My cell number is 606-776-0007. I would love to meet up with you also and compare notes. It has been amazing to meet others with this. I talked to Jim, a patient of Rice's that lives in Columbus. He was the one that they did a medical miracle special on. It's just amazing to see what all we have been thru. Give me a call and we'll chat. > > in KY > > > > achalasia@...: tracylb@...: Wed, 23 Jul 2008 02:40:08 +0000Subject: Re: Cleveland clinic info > > > > > , Hey there! I haven't been doing much posting lately, although I have still been reading most of the posts. I saw your post below that you are going to be in Cleveland to see Dr. Rice. We are heading out there Sunday the 27th and I have my first yearly follow up with him Monday morning as well. He did my 'ectomy back in March of 2007. I know, it's been more than a year for my yearly follow up, but I think originally it was supposed to be a year from when I was given the ok to eat again, which was the last time I was at Cleveland and was the very beginning of May of '07. His office called me in June to schedule the yearly follow-up, and then with my schedule and vacation in early July, it just worked out to be the end of this month. Anyway, not sure of your timing - we have to be there at 8am, and I think my scope is at 8:30, and then I meet with Dr. Rice at 9:30 and then we are done (hopefully, assuming all goes well and he doesn't want anything else done). As of now it's just the scope, as I have not had any issues to date. I see you are having some problems with acid and will be there until Tuesday. What time do your appointments start on Monday? I'd love to match up and say hello and compare 'ectomy notes.Love, in NYAlmost 16 months post-ectomy!> >> > hi ayondeep,> > >> i also had all my records from my previous treatment atgeorgetownsent to dr. rice.? > then they were able to decide that ineeded surgery and theyscheduled all my tests and > surgery at thesame time.? i then flew back from uganda to dc and onto clevelandstraight > away.? so it might be worth checking if they want any ofyourrecords even though they > redo all the tests.? i was so impressedat how hard they all workedto get me in and the > overall quality oftreatment at the clinic.> > > > pam> > > > > > > > [Non-text portionsof this message have been removed]> >> > > > > > > __________________________________________________________> Time for vacation? Guest guest
I was in cleveland yesterday. Did all the three tests and met Dr.Rice. What a meeting it was. As you all said he was blunt in his response and was scary. He said I had an incomplete myotomy with a tight fundoplication and I am in mess right now. He said he can fix it but its going to be a complicated operation as he will have to undo what has been done and then do a myotomy and a fundoplication again. The thing which scared me most that its going to be now an open procedure as he said he knows if he do it laproscopic its going to fail and he does not want that. But he seemed very confident in what he is going to do. He also told me if I need to preserve my esophagus for rest of my life this is what need to be done. I know in this group people have undergone open procedures. Can anyone please tell me their experience. Tonia I remember you said your son had an open procedure with Dr.Rice after a failed operation. Can you please tell me how he did after surgery as my case seems similar to his. What was the recovery time and any other complications, if any. Also he is not going to do it before october as my previous myotomy is only 7 weeks old and he wants to give it some more time to heal up completely. So he suggested I should be taking only liquids till october. Its going to be a lot of experimenting for next two months. -Ayondeep > >> > hi ayondeep,> > > > i also had all my records from my previous treatment at georgetownsent to dr. rice.? > then they were able to decide that i needed surgery and theyscheduled all my tests and > surgery at the same time.? i then flew back from uganda to dc and onto cleveland straight > away.? so it might be worth checking if they want any of yourrecords even though they > redo all the tests.? i was so impressed at how hard they all workedto get me in and the > overall quality of treatment at the clinic.> > > > pam> > > > > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]> >> > > > > > > _________________________________________________________________ > Time for vacation? Guest guest
Only drinking liquids until October? Seems to me that liquids can stretch the esophagus as much as solids. Maybe even more because liquids are heavy and sink, just think of water balloons. It seems logical to the rest of the world that liquids are easier for us, but they may not be, are they easier for you? Although because you have had surgery maybe liquids are easier. I'd ask him. In my experience liquids were not easier, maybe even harder at the worst of the symptoms. Guest guest
I think he meant liquids will clear faster than solids. I will have to check back with him regarding that. He was talking to having gatorades and ensures and all. Well are they easier for me? I think so, but I am also ok with some solids if they are not cooked very hard. I was thinking I was doing good with rice, but he told me that it sticks a lot and also found a lot of it while doing my egd. So no rice from now!!! > >> > hi ayondeep,> > > > > > > > > i also had all my records from my previous treatment at > > > georgetownsent to dr. rice.? > then they were able to decide that i > > > needed surgery and theyscheduled all my tests and > surgery at the > > > same time.? i then flew back from uganda to dc and onto cleveland > > > straight > away.? so it might be worth checking if they want any of > > > yourrecords even though they > redo all the tests.? i was so > > impressed > > > at how hard they all workedto get me in and the > overall quality > > of > > > treatment at the clinic.> > > > pam> > > > > > > > [Non-text > > portions > > > of this message have been removed]> >> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > _________________________________________________________________ > > > > Time for vacation? Guest guest
I always had issues with pasta or starchy things. Things like Vanilla Wafers were the best, but of little nutritional value obviously. Makes sense rice would stick, I guess. There are some drinks I liked.. the Odwalla brand of some things worked, but very expensive. There is a protein one that is thicker than a juice that I could get to stay down. They are made of natural ingredients I think and found in the veggie refrigerated aisle or juice aisle. There are some other brands, but guess they are basically the same as juicing your own fruits and vegetables. I know it sounds implausible, but I tried peanut butter a lot for protein. The advantage, it comes back up easily. Finding proteins is hard, and peanut butter is full of fat and slides down, and if it doesn't work comes back up without hurting.
