Guest guest
Hi , You mention you had steroids injected during your last dilatation. I never heard of that before. Have they explained to you how it's supposed to function? Do you notice a difference already, or when are you supposed to notice difference? Might it be helpfull in cases like mine, where one needs weekly dilatations or one is back to relying on the tube again? My dilatations work for about 6 to 7 days for 100% to then fall back again, so within about 9 days I cannot swallow anymore. This problem will disappear within the year, but if steroids can speed things up... Yet, maybe I need to wait for the scar tissue to get less severe before steroids can help me? Anyway, I certainly will discuss this with the gastro-enterologist coming Wednesday before having my dilatation. Love, Isabella Christi Before you have this chricholaryngeal myo thing done, have you exhausted all of your other options. It seems to me that many of us that have had -ectomies have needed further dilations due to built up scar tissue. How much experience does your surgeon have? By now you know it is so very important to go to someone who is very experienced. I'd hate to see you go through another difficult surgery if not completely necessary. I've already had 3 dilations (since Jan.) - the first 2 were with my surgeon and he also scraped the scar tissue down - made an immediate difference. I've just had my 3rd with a local GI doc and he injected some steroids in my remaining scar tissue to reduce it. I have my next one scheduled in about a month. When all is said and done, I should need a few more and then be done for awhile. Is your surgeon ABSOLUTELY positive that this is not the case for you? Like you, I only have an inch or so of my original E left, just enough to connect it to my new 'tube'. Good luck in whatever you decide and please keep us posted. - in NC
