Guest guest
Hello, Fellow Achalasians, I've been away from posts while taking care of the sale of my late mother's and step-father's house. Three escrows later, it is now sold. Phew! And I had to get my stepfather into Assisted Living; he has dementia and some serious health issues which require skilled nursing. It's been more work than I could have guessed but it has all worked out well. So far, anyway. Meanwhile, I would like to ask a question. I had my Heller's in late January of 2006. I've had pretty good swallowing ever since. I do have saliva pooling as an on-going problem, especially at night, and several nights ago I aspirated a lot of it and was coughing hard through the early a.m. hours. Nasty. But, I'm better now. But my question is this, that I was diagnosed with possible Barrett's, had an endoscopy at Cedars, Beverly Hills, and my gastro. doctor put me on Prilosec DAILY. I've been on it ever since and I can tell you that the days I try going without it are really bad. I think the only thing between me and having full-fledged Barretts is the Prilosec. I read that Prilosec is to be used only for a few weeks at a time and then to stop it. Repeat weeks later. So, am I doing damage to myself by taking it every single day? And do I need to do anything about Barretts? The pain I get when I'm not on Prilosec is really bad. I mean it. And I saw an exray of my esophagus right before I began the Prilosec and there were three large semi-vertical areas of angry-looking tissue inside my throat down towards the stomach. Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Deborah, still at the beach but trying to get my place on the market......
