Guest guest
Hi All, I haven't posted or lurked in awhile, but thought I would give an update for those who like to compare notes. After 3-4 years of progressive symptoms and various treatment, including gall bladder removal in Jan 05, I self-diagnosed Achalasia with help from this group and other internet resources (thanks!). I had a Lap HM w/Toupet Fund performed in Jan 07. The procedure was performed by Dr. Bombach at Pres in Albuquerque. Now for the post surgery data points: I have gained about 35 lbs and would now like to lose a few! I am 6'3 " and went from 185 to 220. I can eat almost anything without problem, except for raw carrots. It doesnt matter how long i chew, if I eat more than 10 or so of the small ones I will have a problem. I was told to schedule an endoscopy follow-up 1 year after the procedure, but I screwed around and didn't have it done until about 18 months. I had been using Advil regularly for back aches from motorcycling and golf, and had an ulcer at the bottom of my E where the Advil would get stuck. I also had an H-pylori infection in my stomach (probably unrelated to the A, not sure). Lessons learned: DON'T USE ADVIL, or make sure that you wash it down with plenty of water. I am told not to use aspirin either. DON'T WAIT TOO LONG FOR FOLLOW-UP. I got lucky and the ulcer has healed after taking some meds (Prilosec and something for the ulcer, anti-biotics for the H). I had another scope a week ago, everything was fine. I plan on getting scoped once per year from here on out. I hope this helps someone out there. Feel free to ask more questions either here or at rbarnett8912-at-hotmail-dot-com. Rich in PLacitas, NM

Guest guest
Hi , The procedure and recovery went very well. I was home the next day, was walking in the neighborhood after another day, went back to work after a week, and took an international business trip at 4 weeks. And I am older than your son I bet (am 50 now). I am sure others have shared their experience here as well. Good luck with the insurance, have him email if he has any questions.
