Guest guest
I would recommend the shot if you can tolerate it. Remember our esophagus can't move yucky stuff down, so any cold or allergy problem can lead to junk hanging out in our esophagus that can get sucked into our breathing airways. (Notan will have technical terms for all this, fine line between gross words and techie words isn't it?). If I can avoid any germ I do it. That includes not touching door handles in public places, using shoulder or elbow to push open doors, NEVER touch escalators in airports... just imagine the fresh gross germs. Same as escalators in malls. Yes, little bit of germaphobe going on here. Airports and public transportation places, germy germy germy!!! Babies w/ runny noses... same thing, rub their feet, at most when someone is showing off their baby, even if the baby looks healthy. Seems like any germ is harder to get rid of if it involves yucky stuff down your throat. Sandy > > I can't get it! Guest guest
It's good to get the flu shot. According to http://www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/children.htm : " If October and November slip by, and you haven't gotten your children or yourself vaccinated, get vaccinated in December or later. " It's probably harder to find a flu clinic: www.findaflushot.com/ But you could still call your doctor's office and ask if they have it. in PA to flu shot or not to flu shot > wondering how many if you take the flu shot? dec usually cut off for > shot. what about vomiting with a, what about vomiting after my or ec? > reading the post on pneumonia just got me thinking. > >
Guest guest
About vomiting... often discussed here. You will that subject coming up at least once a year. It seems like it is difficult to vomit, but can be done. There are some posts about how miserable it can be, but it can happen. I haven't done so since way before achalasia, it wasn't one of my usual problems.. mine is/was sinus breathing things. But I haven't had a bug that brought on the urge. Others have, some couldn't ever vomit, some couldn't at first but eventually could vomit. Remember there is a HUGE difference between vomiting and regurgitating, for those of you that are family memebers of achalasia sufferers. Regurg has no acids, doesn't taste bad, doesn't usually hurt.. we regurg, can rechew and swallow again. LIke a cow. Guest guest
Hello, Tia's pediatrician has Tia get the flu shot and we have a supply of nausea medicine on hand because vomiting for her is very difficult. Which reminds me her flu shot appointment is next week, you think after everything she has been through a shot would be a walk in the park. But, nope- she hates shots. Guest guest
cathy- I got a flu shot from work today. they had a type pf nasal spray flu vaccine. the difference is the spray is a weakened form of a live flu virus whereas the shot is nonlive form. I took the shot because I had reservations about weakened live virus in the spray. since it wasn't completely denunated. not sure if this is an option for kids. ask her ped....angela to flu shot or not to flu shot achalasia <mailto:achalasia%40> Date: Tuesday, November 25, 2008, 6:22 AM wondering how many if you take the flu shot? dec usually cut off for shot. what about vomiting with a, what about vomiting after my or ec? reading the post on pneumonia just got me thinking. Guest guest
Hi All If you have the choice on whether to have the Flu shot or not, I'd have it if I were you. I have been having a regular annual Flu shot now for 7 years and have never regreted it. My GP says that as an Achalasian I should have the Flu shot every year as all people who have Achalasia have a reduced imune system and are more prone to chest infections. So yes go ahead with it. ________________________________ From: kotacj <kotacj@...> achalasia Sent: Tuesday, November 25, 2008 2:22:01 PM Subject: to flu shot or not to flu shot wondering how many if you take the flu shot? dec usually cut off for shot. what about vomiting with a, what about vomiting after my or ec? reading the post on pneumonia just got me thinking. __._,_..___ Messages in this topic (1) Reply (via web post) | Start a new topic Messages | Files | Photos | Links | Database | Polls | Calendar MARKETPLACE ________________________________ From kitchen basics to easy recipes - join the Group from Kraft Foods Change settings via the Web ( ID required) Change settings via email: Switch delivery to Daily Digest | Switch format to Traditional Visit Your Group | Terms of Use | Unsubscribe Recent Activity * Â 7 New Members * Â 9 New PhotosVisit Your Group Meditation and Lovingkindness A Group to share and learn. Guest guest
Yes! 's docs highly recommend it, so he gets it each year. His immune system is already compromised because of the celiac disease PLUS he is one of the Achalasians who cannot vomit...he ends up in the ER on morphine. I understand about being prone to chest infections, but does primary achalasia mean one has a " reduced immune system? " One of the theories about achalasia is that we have an altered immune response, but that is not the same as a reduced immune system. I had actually been looking into this question before your message so I found it interesting. If we have reduced immune systems it would seem likely that we also would get various types of infections more often than others do. I do not see myself that way. I just have had more than my share of odd conditions. Next week I will get the results of blood tests that apply to this topic. notan
Guest guest
I do NOT think people with achalasia have a reduced immune system. I exercise daily, and eat fairly well. I do not get sick any more than the average person, perhaps even less, b/c of my fitness regime, I think. (I am a marathon runner, and triathlete). I get the flu shot ever fall.
