Guest guest
Hi all, just wanted to give an update. I had my myotomy on Weds 11/5 at Beth Israel Deaconesss in Boston with Dr Kent. The care I received was outstanding!! cannot not say enough abouth the nurses!! I had Doctors in and out all day! I was a celebrity of sorts with the residents, probably 1st time for some of them. I had a lap procdeure, out of it on 1st day, don't remember much. Must be that Dilaudid, kills the pain but you are out of it!! Had Barium swallow thursday am showed no leaks, Great news there!! still on Dilaudid most of thursday, asked to be switched to something else, due to that foggy feeling. given liquid Roxicet. took a short walk Thursday night ( with help of course!!) Friday am walking alone ( still slow) they ended up releasing me Friday afternoon. In retrospect I probably should have stayed still saturday but was anxious to get home. Not crazy about Roxicet either, feel so out of it and nauseous, that's what scared me most, did not want to vomit! now on liquid tylenol to take edge off. feeling a little better every day, but not as quick as I would like!! have not burped foam once!! Can't remember last time I could say that! On full liquid diet and keeping it down! Finally a word of thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers, I felt them all and hope I can do the same for one of you!! from Massachusetts

Guest guest
tracy, great news about your surgery and in no time, you'll be eating anything you want! i had my lap myotomy with fundo five weeks ago today and i've tried everything. i've not vomited nor regurgitated anything......no foamy saliva coming back up! = ) there have been a few times when food seems to get " stuck " but i think these times happen if i eat too much too quickly. so be careful. just don't be anxious. everything eventually goes through. continue to recover well. thoughts and prayers are with you. eloisa ________________________________ From: tracy21261 <tracy212@...> achalasia Sent: Monday, November 10, 2008 6:24:28 PM Subject: update on myotomy 11/05/08 Hi all, just wanted to give an update. Guest guest
Dear ,  It is good to hear from you and to know that you are doing well.  I can't understand why patients are given these drugs post-myotomy which cause them to be nauseous. You are the second person in a couple of weeks to report that.  Tylenol seems perfectly adequate for pain relief after the first 24 hours and is a much simpler and " kinder " drug to use.  As Eloisa reports, never forget that you still have very little or no peristalsis and never will have. It is important that you accept that you will never be a normal swallower. That, in fect, is a positive thing to accept, because it reminds you to keep a certain degree of caution with chewing and utilising liquid, and it reminds you not to become too dismayed if you do have some minor problems occasionally.  Please stay with us. You are now in a position to be able to give a little back of the support you needed and acknowledge.  A support group needs its " doing well " members too.  Keep up the good work. Guest guest
Ann, my doctor did tell me of the post-myotomy side effects of Roxicet as a pain releiver. I got the prescription filled, but I didn't take it. I really didn't need it. I had a couple of times when I had pain but I just took a hot shower and went to bed. -- Jeff ________________________________ From: Ann Higgs <lilac_blossom_lady@...> achalasia Sent: Tuesday, November 11, 2008 9:10:55 AM Subject: Re: update on myotomy 11/05/08 Dear , It is good to hear from you and to know that you are doing well.
