The only thing that > helps is not eating or drinking (obviously not an option!) Am glad to see I'm not alone in the burping. I've had a chronic dry cough for 8 years, followed often by a loud burp or two. I found that if I could burp, it would stop the coughing. People would offer me water, but I could not drink it as it would immediately expel. I would burp or cough without even eating anything. I also had the expelling of the foamy saliva mentioned by some posts here. I'm in the process of being tested for achalasia, which sounds like what I experience. I've had the endoscopy & barium swallow, do have a hiatus hernia and also tested positive for h.pylori bacteria, for which I took a triple cocktail to kill it. I wonder if the bacteria has anything to do with the development of achalasia. I'm waiting for an appointment to have a manometry, and already feel that it will confirm the obvious. I'm a 62 year old female and weigh 170. Obviously I've not had the problem yet of losing weight. Eating at a restaurant is a real challenge, because the first bite causes coughing and sometimes gagging, and even a loud burp in mid cough. I often feel like people think I have a dreaded contagous disease. I never met anyone who had this condition, so it is comforting to read all the stories here. Good luck to you all. BTW, I got a great Gastro guy on the first try. Betty in VA
