Guest guest
Next one is weight lifting. He started weight lifting about 2 weeks ago and that's about the same time the spasms stared and have been on going as well as him lifting daily. Could it be from the straining? I don't know just maybe some ideas to grasp at. Thanks to all of you for your help! Tonia Hi Tonia!! I saw your post and let me see if I can help you here. Cameron started working out, lifting weights moderately. He wanted to get buff. He started slowly. I think he was 15 at the time. After a short period, he started having EXTREME PAIN!! Off the Richter scales. He would stand in a HOT shower until the water was gone. This would lessen them pain immensely. We thought something came undone inside or perhaps it was something else. The pain did not start immediately after working out, but after a short time. Sometimes when he was quiet and or sleeping he would wake up in pain. We went through so many tests, neurological, dye tests, barium swallows, cat scans, MRI's etc. The source was never determined medically. Dr Patti said it could be something pulling inside. We went to a physical therapist to determine if he had " hurt " himself somehow. Silly they thought it was his back pressing on a nerve. The pain was under the RIGHT shoulder blade and what seemed to be ON the ribs area around to the front. Here is his description " Like Rods of White HOT iron being stabbed in to my back, shoulder area! " I am not kidding when I say, NO ONE could figure out the source of pain. So we eliminated things and kept a journal. When we eliminated ALL physical activity for a period of 1 month the pain began to subside and then went away. When this was achieved, we kept him OFF physical activity involving LIFTING; this meant every thing… nothing heavier than a gallon of milk. After 3 months he was totally pain free. It has been a year almost, so we know what the factors were. We determined that somehow he was pulling on the stitches of the fundoplication to the diaphragm and at the same time he was causing the NERVE bundles to become Extremely inflamed and excited. I do not advocate any work out, unless it is large muscle group and endurance type building like walking, biking, skiing, dodge ball, NO RUNNING and NO HEAVY LIFTING AND THAT IS ANYTHING OVER 8 POUNDS. You can experiment and see if this will answer his issue. Give it SERIOUS 6 months to heal. And then re-consider the activities above. I would have to recommend that he give up the notion of having the largest biceps in the school and to give up having the 6 Pac. It may not be possible. Let me know… I think this could be an issue for a case study. Carolyn Mom of Cameron Almost 4 years from discovery.
