Guest guest
Isn't achlotab something that pops up on the internet and we had a discussion about it maybe a year ago??? It turns out that website had about 100 other diseases that the same pill supposedly cured. Maybe I'm confused. Was the other gastro a holistic one? I'm going to go look up our old comments. Guest guest
hi, ned! welcome to the group. i've not tried any of the pills. for me, i felt the lap surgery was the best option. i believe the two surgeries you mentioned are one in the same, but when you say just heller myotomy that can mean laproscopic or open. nowadays, the laproscopic is the preferred surgery. i had the surgery just three weeks ago and i'm doing great! i know someone in orange county who has achalasia but he went to ucla for expert advice. let me know if you have any more questions. eloisa from ft wayne, IN From: benoticed1 <benoticed1@...> achalasia Sent: Wednesday, October 29, 2008 5:06:03 PM Subject: Herbal tablet for Achalasia-Achlotab Hi. I am newly diagnosed with achalasia. I would like to know if anyone has tried this herbal tablet-Achlotab. The ad states guaranteed cured. My doctor has prescribed nifedephine, but I saw another gastroenterologist that recommended achlotab instead. The gastroenterologist also recommended getting the minimally invasive laparoscopic epasogeal myotomy if the pills do not work. Is this procedure similar to Heller's myotomy? Whos is considered the best surgeon to perform this procedure? my doctor is in La jolla-Scripps Institute. Thanks much, Ned
Guest guest
Man, don't even open up that can of worms. I found the old topic and it was absolutely beaten to death a while ago. Be suspicious of any instant cure. Just for a brief minute.... on my soap box.... I'd guess at least 80% of the people that come through this group have some kind of successful treatment recognized through the AMA and well published. We may disagree or make suggestions about techniques or procedures or doctors, because we all adore our doctors if they have made us able to eat again. Most disappear and never come back here. Maybe another 10% need a second treatment. Then another few more have constant ongoing issues. No one knows for sure why, but the indicators are that it is because of delayed early treatment or inexperienced doctors early on in the disease. For some there is no explanation. None have had luck w/ a magic pill. Some may delay treatment, waiting for the magic pill or green drops to work, but none of these has been proven successful when daylight is shined on the techniques or procedures beyond anecdotal evidence. Whenever a " magic cure " is introduced be aware if the person introducing it has a financial interest in it. Believe me, everyone here would like to avoid surgery and financial and emotional drain, most have searched and searched. The only relief found, that can be documented is from dialations, or a myotomy. Some medications seem to help w/ spasms, seems like Reglan has slight chances of helping with swallowing, sometimes. Botox may be appropriate in some situation. Doing nothing is continuing to live in misery and face complications and deepened misery in life. Sometimes a person's other health issues may be such that doing nothing is the only choice. No magic pill has helped. I could pussy foot around, but doing nothing, does not lead to any improvement. I really don't understand the logic of keeping something intact that isn't properly functioning just for the sake of keeping it intact. But each to their own. It is like keeping a diseased tooth and living with the pain and infection. You could have a filling, root canal, removal or antibiotics and try to make it better. Why live with the infection and pain if you don't have to? Sandy > > > > Hi. I am newly diagnosed with achalasia. I would like to know if > > anyone has tried this herbal tablet-Achlotab. Guest guest
Dear Ned, I'm in Long Beach. There is a woman, Love, in the San Diego area. She opted for a dialation at USC. UCLA has Dr. Maisch and I saw Dr. Fuller @ Cedars. There have been several that had treatment in the San Diego area, but seems like they haven't posted lately. if you go to the achalasia home page and in this group put in La Jolla or Scripps, they may show up. Or San Diego. I stay in touch somewhat with many from Southern CA and although there are other great medical centers in Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, most go to the facilities I mentioned above, if they can. The experience of the doctors/surgeons is one of the most important indicators of success. I saw Dr. Ippoliti at Cedars, and offhand, I can't remember the gastro doctors' names at the other places. For each facility go to their websites and search for the dept. heads for gastro, some have esophageal centers. I'd suggest a second opinion. Not at all saying Scripps doesn't have appropriate care, seems like people have had success there, and I haven't heard anything negative, the more experienced doctors will be at the higher volume places. But you will get returned phone calls if you call the other places and then can make more informed choices, if you desire. Thanks much, Ned I'm in San Diego and was referred by a local gastroenterologist to USC in Los Angeles to see Dr. Steve DeMeester, a surgeon who is knowledgeable about achlasia. I'm 65 years old, had recently had a thoracotomy to remove a thoracic tumor and wasn't ready for another surgery. Rather than surgery, I opted for a pneumatic dilatation in April, 2008. Dr. DeMeester referred me to Dr. Kline, a gastroenterologist at USC. Dr. Kline performed a pneumatic dilatation [30 mm] with good results. My best wishes to you! Guest guest
My doctor from Scripps in La Jolla also referred Dr. Demeester. I already called their office. Thanks for the advice. Ned That sounds very positive! Dr. DeMeester is thorough and knowledgeable. I saw Dr. Steve DeMeester, by the way. His father, Dr. Tom DeMeester at USC, is also an expert, from what I've read and been told. Perhaps you already know that Dr. DeMeester will repeat the three tests related to an achalasia diagnosis. I had all of the tests done in La Mesa at Sharp Grossmont first. Then at USC they did the tests again. My best wishes to you. in San Diego
