Guest guest
Dear Mike and Deborah, Â Like Deborah, I take a daily dose of Omeprazole (20mg at about 7pm each evening). Â My Doctor says that iit is important to protect my very compromised oesophagus against acid damage. Â I do not like to be taking daily medication, because I am totally aware that it is alien to the nature of the body, but I accept that this is necessary and the lesser of two evils. Therefore I do not worry about taking it any more and do my best to keep healthy and have a good diet. Â I am dismayed, Mike, that you have had two myotomies and are still having a difficult time. What is the next step for you? I think that this calls for a barium swallow test to look at your emptying. Â Deborah, I never envy your difficulties with your eating and insurance, BUT i do envy the view you have of that filming. It must be an exciting distraction. (Let me know if you ever see Monsieur Depp). LOL Â With Best Wishes to your both for a better year in 2009, Love from Ann in England. Guest guest
Hi Ann I read on your post that you take 20mg of Omeprazole every night and thank God that it is only a light dose. It makes me think about my dose which is high = 40mg of Omeprazole in the morning and 40mg again at night. It scares me that i have to take so much. What are the longterm side affects of such a high dose i wonder. Despite the high dose i still have reflux problems with acid if i bend over to get something off the floor for instance and even sometimes when sitting up reading. I wonder why? I am to see surgeon on July 16th but to be honest i don't expect any answers. I still get pain in my chest particularly under my left ribs going through to my back on the right side. Why? Is it because of adhesions after my ectomy which was open through my left side. from the UK ________________________________ From: Ann Higgs <lilac_blossom_lady@...> Host Achalasia <achalasia > Sent: Sat, May 29, 2010 12:44:11 PM Subject: PPIs  I have been paying particular attention to the recent discussion on PPIs, because I am one of the many of us who take them daily. Fortunately my dosage is low - 20mg of Omeprazole each evening. However, I hate taking any drugs and wish that I did not have to.  But I regard it as a necessary evil. I have to accept that my oesophagus is very susceptible to damage. It's one of the decisions that people have to take because life and health issues are never black and white.  On May 30th it will be 4 years since my myotomy and I continue to have a good life. Of course there are small concessions to be made - eating more slowly, always having a drink on hand, not lying flat, and not taking eating for granted any more. But for any newbies around, please know that achalasia does not have to ruin your life. There are loads of us who are doing well, at all ages. (60 in July- YIKES).  Best Wishes to everyone from Ann (England).
