" I went into the Healtheries shop over here and asked if they had

heard of proEFA and they hadn't but gave me what they thought was the

equivalent it is Efalex has anyone heard of this? "

Hi Michele,

I know you are looking for a New Zealand equivalent, but many companies that

make EFAs will ship all over. Let me tell you some of the differences I know,

and if I say anything wrong, I'm sure I'll be corrected (however from Dr. Katz

not till he gets back!)

Efalex is the EFA product that my son Tanner first had such amazing results

on before we switched to ProEFA. You can read about what happened in the LCP

Solution book by Dr. Stordy and Malcolm Nicholl, or online at their website,

http://www.drstordy.com/stories.html (You can also read about Dr.

's research at Oxford on EFAs, or LCPs (same thing) at

http://www.drstordy.com/research.html I'm sure that Dr. Katz will be

able to tell us much more about this when he comes back from meeting

with all of them in the UK at their conference, which is still going

on today!

My son Tanner is now on ProEFA and doing amazing (you can hear him at

http://www.debtsmart.com/talk Actually nine and a half year old

from the Talking Page, who was one of the children on Inside

Edition's segment on verbal apraxia and our nonprofit, was on the

ProEFA from around the end of March, to his most recent update tape

from July. Listen for yourself to see if you hear a change in those

few months.

Efalex is a similar to ProEFA in that it is an " Omega 3 -Omega 6 " EFA

formula with DHA, and GLA. However, the Omega 6 (the GLA) from the

Efalex is from Primrose Oil, and the Omega 6 (the GLA) from the

ProEFA is from Borage Seed Oil. Another difference, other than

dosage is that Efalex doesn't say it contains EPA in it on the

original Efalex bottle, and the new formula doesn't mention EPA

either. ProEFA also has EPA in addition to the DHA and the GLA.

When Dr. Stordy worked at Efamol and worked on the Efalex formula, it

was manufactured by Efamol, a UK company which has an excellent

reputation. Efalex is no longer made

by Efamol, and so the formula is changed a bit from when my son

Tanner was on it. Efamol and Efalex is now owned and produced by

Nutricia, which also owns GNC.

I heard the Efalex formula when it was made by Efamol (the original)

was very pure. For the new Efalex formula made by Nutricia, please

check into the purity with the pharmacist where you are purchasing,

or contact the Nutricia company to find out.

Fish oil can not contain mercury, but it can be rancid, and it will

smell rancid when you squeeze out the oil. My friend who is an

internist ( MD out of Kimball Medical Center) will first

check out the product from the manufacturer, then even when she's

happy with what she finds out, she will take the capsule and chew it

to see if she thinks the oil tastes OK. (yes, I look at her like she

nuts and she just laughs) I know others do this too. Volunteers to

do this with Efalex? (I know people do this with ProEFA!)

Nordic Naturals I just found out is going to be making a version of the original

Efalex-it should be out soon, and it will be just like the original in the you

can buy the bottle of oil vs. the capsules you have to squeeze!

I'll keep you posted.

There is another big difference between Efalex and ProEFA, which is

why many of us switched from Efalex to ProEFA (from the new formula-

the old one wasn't around when ProEFA was.)

With Efalex, you need to give the child one to two capsules two to

four times a day and you only get 60 capsules. ProEFA is one capsule

a day and you get 90 capsules. ProEFA is not only cheaper, but a

much lower dosage, and yet it has worked better in many cases (again,

than the new formula-we don't know about the original formula that

was made by Efamol)

I did find the original Efalex on the web. But since it hasn't been

manufactured for a bit, I don't know how old it is.

I'm not sure if there are GNCs in New Zealand, but you know where to

find the Efalex at the Healtheries shop there.

You can also check out the Efalex online at

http://www.nutriciacanada.com/efalex.html

You can check out the ProEFA (which is in the healthcare professional

line of Nordic Naturals) at http://shopinserviceinc.goemerchant2.com

You can check out the Ultimate Omega, which is also made by Nordic

Naturals and is the commercial version of ProEFA at

http://www.nordicnaturals.com

Got to run to 2 kiddie parties with Dakota and Tanner!
