Guest guest
Judy, you asked a question pertaining to IMUPlus and caffeine. You stated " I take my first dose first thing in the morning. Normally, the only way I mobilize in the morning is by consuming lots of caeffine. I'm assuming that caeffine should not be taken shortly before or after taking the Imuplus. But, does anyone have any guess as to how long I need to wait before drinking coffee or diet coke? " I don't know for sure, but I think Dr. Cheney's concern is with acidic substances, not with caffeine per se. At least in regard to affecting IMUPlus or Immunocal. I think he said that anything acidic will promote the digestion (over-digestion?) of the protein, which you really want to avoid. Another patient of his reported he even mentioned taking Pepcid AC a half hour to an hour before taking IMUPlus if you were concerned about stomach acid neutralizing the IMUPlus. And of course if you've been digesting food, there will be stomach acid. Even if acidic beverages aren't associated with the digestion problem, I do remember that he said never take IMUPlus with anything acidic. Since he said that it safe to eat 30 minutes or so after taking it (though I usually wait an hour just to be sure), my guess is that would apply to your coffee or soda also. When I got the dose right, I had very clear benefits from Immunocal. I've been off it since the beginning of September and am waiting now to begin IMUPlus as part of a study Dr. Cheney is doing. Take care. Carol
Guest guest
<<<<You said you were drinking diet coke. This has aspartame which is extremely toxic. Even the FDA acknowledges this as they get more calls about this than any other substance. It is a neurotoxin--it will fry your brain. I wish people would get this straight. Aspartame is simply two amino acids which are found naturally in foods. It does not fry your brain. The contraindication for use is those persons with phenyl ketonuria who cannot process one of the two amino acids. Improperly stored or heated to excess, it can change form into less healthful compounds which, consumed in LARGE amounts can cause headaches in some people. It is entirely your choice whether to use aspartame containing products, but I really get upset when people try to forbid ME to use it. I know what I am doing and cannot have sugar, nor can my diabetic spouse. For us, used in moderation, it is a good thing. I am also a former FDA employee, trained to review studies and applications (before FMS forced me to quit working). I have seen a lot of non-scientific " scare " articles on various topics, including aspartame. Hysteria sells, but it doesn't make it true. While it may not be harmful for some, for most it does cause problems. It was on one of the first lists of common things that seemed to cause problems for these patients. Several physicians advocated staying away from these or to do an elimination diet to see if eliminating would help. Gail
