Guest guest Posted December 3, 2002 Report Share Posted December 3, 2002 Survey shows low AIDS awareness level in Kozhikode (Kerala) KOZHIKODE: A large number of city dwellers are unaware of the consequences of AIDS, according to a sample survey by the Rotary Club of Calicut Central here on Sunday. The survey, conducted on the World AIDS Day, was aimed at finding the impact of AIDS awareness programmes in the city, according to club office-bearers A V Anvar, Roopesh Lal, Jauhar, Sachin Prabhakar and Amita. AIDS DAY OBSERVED: Various programmes were held in different parts of the district to mark the World AIDS Day. Mayor Thottathil Raveendran inaugurated the information counter set up by the Kerala State AIDS Control Society in association with Government General Hospital (Beach Hospital) and Vanitha Society PSH Project at the hospital this morning. The information counter will provide guidance to persons affected with HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases. District Medical Officer Dr. Vimal Raj presided over the function. The ISH Prison Project observed the AIDS Day at District Jail here with various awareness programmes. Dr K Gopalan delivered the keynote lecture. Jail superintendent A Devadas, Project Officer C Manoj Kumar, Chief Warden Sasidharan and V K led programmes. A film show also held as part of the function. The Kerala Government Student Nurses Union and Sexually Transmitted Diseases Counselling Centre at Beach Hospital today organised a poster exhibition on AIDS. Hospital superintendent Dr. K C Sugesh Devu inaugurated the programme. Francois-Xavier Bagnound India Society organised a red ribbon campaign and get-together at Puthiyappa Harbour.
