It could have easily been a virus, maybe 's stealth virus, that weakened the immune system enough for the bacterial infections to take hold. What other reason could there be for spouses not getting the bacterial infections? There immune systems didn't suffer the insult that ours did. So to POSTULATE that a viral infection was the initiating event in CFS is good THEORY although it can't be proven. HHV6 is a good possibility as the INITIAL cause. So to say that a virus has nothing to do with CFS is just as potentially wrong as saying it is purely bacterial. Plus, you say that Nicholson found Mycoplasma infections in only 40% of PWCs. What about the other 60%? Maybe the other 60% is still under attack from a viral infection and the mycoplasma/rickettsia hasn't set in yet.(?)
