Guest guest
I've been off of the list for a few months, but now I'm back & have a couple of questions about antibiotics. I know some of you were taking long-term antibiotics for mycoplasma infections, etc., and I'm wondering if those on abx still think they are a good idea? I'm also wondering if anyone has gone off of the antibiotics after long-term use, and if this resulted in a relapse or if you still had improvement. My second question is this. I had a series of what I thought were urinary tract infections, for which I took antibiotics a couple of times. A little over a week ago, I had another one, and since I'm too sick to get to the doctor, they prescribed antibiotics over the phone. Almost immediately, they were giving me headaches and nausea, even though I had taken these antibiotics before. Then, 7 days into a 2-week prescription, I completely crashed with a high fever, severe chills, lots of pain, and other symptoms. Eventually, after hours of feeling so ill I felt I had no other choice, I went to the ER, but they found no trace of a urinary tract infection, and simply gave me a different type of antibiotics (levaquin). As soon as I took the second type of abx, I got even sicker. This continued for most of the day until tonight. I'm still feeling much worse than usual, still running a fever, still having chills, but I'm doing somewhat better. Does anyone have any speculation as to whether or not this could simply be a Herximer reaction, or if instead it is similar to another type of infection. Has anyone had similar symptoms? A couple of times over the past few years, I went to the ER with similar symptoms (chills, fever, pins and needles feeling in the spine, etc.). My doctor is unhelpful, and the ER docs were unhelpful. But I worry that something unusual is going on. Thoughts?
