Dear Friends

My name is Shilpa Challa and I am writing in regards to VISIONS

Worldwide. This summer along with a group of students, I will be

traveling to Bangalore, India to work with students in local high

schools and colleges to dissimenate information about HIV/AIDS and

ways to prevent the spread of the epidemic.

Over the past seven years, VISIONS delegates and chapters have

reached out to over 40,000 students and community members in

Bangalore, Mumbai and New Delhi. The underlying premise behind

VISIONS lies in empowering Indian youth with knowledge and information

so that students can further sustain the work of VISIONS through the

year. Along with working with students, VISIONS also works with

non-governmental organizations to further understand the impact of

HIV/AIDS in India.

Almost like a dark shadow, AIDS looms over the young adult

population. While abstinence is the most effective way to prevent

sexual transmission of HIV, studies have shown that kids are having

sex. We hope to open channels of communication, so that students can

ask what was once deemed taboo and hope to educate them about safe sex

to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.

As a non-profit organization, VISIONS Worldwide seeks donations

from individuals, businesses, civic organizations and foundations who

can either donate funds, services, technical equipment or frequent

flier miles from major airlines with international routes. A delegate

must raise his/her funds to travel to Washington DC for training and

also raise funds for the ticket and stay in India during the summer

(all in all a sum of $2500-3000 to fund the trip) I am writing so that

perhaps you could direct me in anyway towards ways to raise money

through donations and grants.
