Guest guest
Hi, These are such difficult issues to deal with. I agree that we should not be talking of individual sects here, but the concept of health and spirituality can certainly be considered experimental! What I have trouble is with people who ask me things like, " do you know the lord? " or accuse me of not being spiritual enough, and this from a counselor - that I need god becuase I have little else left! Then throw in my mother who gives me things to read about religion and health, and says to think positive never be negative. This is a woman who got sidetracked into Christian Science and is THE most negative person one could know! - lol! So I must be sick because I am not positive or spritual enough - I don;t believe that, but that is the message a lot of us get. As a Jew, my outlook is a bit different. I am taught that we are put here with a set of values and what we choose to do is our responsibility . A god or devil doesn't create wrongs, it is us and therefore, and we have a responsibility to others as well as ourselves. There is a saying - Pray as if everything you do depends on god but ACT as if everyting depends on yourself. We live in real world, and I know others will feel different, but I need real answers, & and real people. An amorphous god and nothing else sounds pretty lonely - at least for me. And since no one who has died has come back to tell about it, we really can only do what we can here with time we have. There may or may not be an afterlife of anykind. Personally, I like the atom theory. In 8th grade science we learned that some of the same atoms that were in Julius Caesar are in us - so perhaps we all just reconfigure! I had written this message and somewho deleted it, and the other one was better, so forgive the quaility here. Actually I didn't realize how much I struggle with this spiritual thing until I started writing about it. Thanks for listening, Christie > From: Steve <moores@...> >>there are tons of places on the internet to have these types of discussions. An experimental site should focus on the empirical. I don't want my spiritual views subject to empirical analysis & I >think most folk do not want their view subject to such analysis. I have been involved in research which examine the relationship between spirituality and health related variables. If someone want >to discuss such research fine. But let's not get involved in specific spiritual belief systems. >Steve > ________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ > From: Brown <pbrown@...> > >I did not mean to leave the impression that your faith will cause >a miraculous healing. ------------- >rom: <kathryn@...> >>Oh puleeeze, I would so much appreciate a cease and desist on religious topics. >>There is a special newsgroup for PWC's who want to discuss religion. >>Like, does anyone really want to hear about any of my childbirth experiences? >>I didn't think so. >>The name of this newsgroup is . >>Thanks in advance, >> >
