I had balloon dilation on Friday and everything was going down without problems.

Seems like today liquid/food is starting to back up a little again. I just drank

water and allowed it to come out to clear my throat. I felt a little burn/sting

at the back of my throat. Will taking the Nexium help this? I didnt think it

would being that its not really acid but then again if it isn't why would it

sting? I prefer NOT to take any PPI's but dont want to damage my esopghagus.

Thankfully during the EGD the doc didnt see any. I dont want it start. Not sure

what to do, Im so confused :-/

You need to see if you are having a true acid reflux issue or not. If you are

then a PPI would help. If you are having an issue like food is rotting in the

" E " then a PPI would not really work that well.

Hi Auri,

I had two dilations last year and I have good days and bad days. I lost 35 lbs

in a few months and am at a healthy weight now. Some weeks I can gain a few

pounds and the next week I lose it. Today was a good day and I ate pretty well

as I love food. For me anything too sweet, bitter, sour or spicy will send me in

the wrong direction. I started drinking coconut water and just started on Mega

Multi vitamins and B complex from GNC and it seems as though I have had a little

more energy than I had since I was diagnosed with A last year. It has been a

rough ride and I am still learning how to weather this storm  but in time you

learn what foods or liquids will work for you. I use my food processor a lot

more and love organic pureed soups, especially butternut squash soup with

crackers and butter. Drink more water than you think you need if possible.

Mashed potatoes with butter and sour cream, you need the fat and calories,

protein shakes and smoothies. Get

creative .

Good luck!

Kim A

Kim, thank you so much! I actually have butternut squash soup from Trader Joes

but it doesn't agree well with me now :-/ I used to love it before. I love

mashed potatoes but think it might trigger reflux, I will have to try it again

and see. My body has changed so much, its hard to tell what will work and what

doesn't now. Trial and error I guess. Appreciate your input :-)

You will find with Achalasia that what works one day doesn't necessarily work

the next. I still don't understand it but I guess some days are better than

others. I also switched from regular mile to Almond Milk - lactose free and

doesn't bother my stomach or give me indigestion. It also has 50% more calcium

than milk.
