Guest guest
Was it the doctor, or was it the esophagus, or there is no way of knowing the reason for the failure? ________________________________ From: Kim <kimellenbailey@...> " achalasia " <achalasia > Sent: Tuesday, February 21, 2012 5:46 PM Subject: Re: Do PPI Â Â both of my dilatations only lasted a very short time.. few days on one, couple weeks on another. Guest guest
Hi ,  I am sure you realize that it was nobody's intentions for a dilatation to last for just a few days. This brings up the point about administering botox if it only gives relief for a few months, with each succeeding injection being for a shorter period of time. An argument can be made in a number of cases that if a person is too old for surgery, or maybe needs surgery but is not fit for surgery that botox buys time.  Performing dilatations by a dedicated doctor, like many developing skills, does have a learning curve, yet one might say that some doctors are definitely more skilled than others in obtaining maximum results. I would not blame the physician in all cases of failure ( " failure " in this case meaing an unacceptably short period of time of relief. I firmly believe that how we eat after having a dilatation or HM can often affect how long the positive effects last. In some cases, though, if the patient was doing very poorly to begin with, no doctor is going to achieve a long lasting positive outcome.  In some cases, and we have seen it here, the unexpected happens and all of a sudden a person has to have an ectomy. Very rare, but very real.  , let's hope the dilatation you are going to have brings you back to our " normal.
