Hi,

If you are having the HM with the fundo wrap, you will more than likely not

have any acid reflux .  If you do not have the fundo wrap, you are guaranteed

to have reflux.  I did not have the wrap just the HM in 1999 and have to deal

with tons of acid reflex.  I have had this disease since before being diagnosed

in 1978.  It definitely controls my weight; but it will not defeat me.

Best Regards,

Sharon

Hi there: My name is (but my friends call me GEO) and I have been

diagnosed with Achalasia and am scheduled for surgery April 11. I live in

Edmonton Alberta and honestly I have mixed emotions on this process. I am 56

years old and have had this for many years but when I mentioned it to my family

Dr. he basically said having a problem swallowing is not an huge concern as a

lot of people have that but it got worse and I told him to send me to someone

that knows what the hell they are talking about and find out what is going on as

I was starting to throw up more reguarly which is very embarrasing to say the

least and you get tired of chocking done your meal with glasses of water.

I have lost 30 lbs in the last 6 months and would think after my surgery I will

shed a few more but at least it will be done with.

I am already taking prevacid and have for years. How is the acid reflux after

the surgery as well as heartburn I guess is one of my questions?

I had testicular cancer surgery 2 years ago and I joined a site like this and

was really helpful.

I appreciate any feedback, suggestions and advise as I go forward with this

thing. What better to learn from then those who have gone through this already.

Many thanks....GEO

i didnt get a fundo either, Sharron. i have no reflux. My Dr.. Dr Marxx  did not

do it because i had had some surgery a long time ago and i had some scar tissue

there, and it would not work with a fundo. i have NO reflux and am good, for

someone with achalasia.. i dont take anything other than i have to take bentyl

sometimes and donnatal.. and sometimes galvascon..that is it. Kim Ellen

I had the HM, March 8, 1999,  I reacted to the CO2 used in the laproscopic

surgery and had major problems breathing and they had to open and finish really

quick and finish.  Glad I am still living.  I count my blessings everyday.

Curious. When did you have the HM and why no fundo?

I sleep elevated pretty high. Not reflux but I still have food in e. I cannot

eat bread either. Have done it before. Paid huge price. Not worth it. Had part

of a grilled hamburger patty last nite. Didn't do too well either. Kim Ellen

Sharron. i can eat meat occasionally. i have eaten rare ribeye.. but cant eat

too much. i can tell it doesnt really PLOP down there.. and like you i have to

have crispy.. only way i can eat bread is crispy as a crouton... i am busy as we

speak cooking a hen off the bone for some dumplings and cooking green limas etc

and going to make cornbread. of this.. i wont eat anything but maybe some broth

of the dumplings and maybe some beans.. but life goes on, doesnt it? LOL...Fried

catfish (real crispy) seems to work ok.. but one filet is all i can do.. i am

noticing some symptoms lately( i had the myotomy in september)  that are not too

good and make me feel anxious. i find myself being able to eat as well as i did

inititally  and i am getting concerned. i am just going to watch it. guess that

is all i can do for now. Kim Ellen ,

I still own my gallbladder, but for those of you who don't, this is likely worth

investigating: http://www.ic-network.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-32809.html
