Guest guest
I've read this before, and I just wanted to clarify that it was written by Joan Pearse.  I appreciate that Dr Bessell is using it for his patients and their families though... very useful information. kim in canada ________________________________ From: RICHARD FRIEDMAN <cynmark24@...> " achalasia " <achalasia >; Ann Higgs <lilac_blossom_lady@...> Sent: Monday, March 26, 2012 10:22 PM Subject: Achalasia for " beginners "  Many of us on this Board have read 's posts and have expressed compassion and understanding for her ongoing problems. Out of curiosity, knowing that others from Australia have posted over the years, I was surprised to see that her surgeon, Dr. Bessell actually came to our site here and posted a message about achalasia. In his practice he has a web page for the various diseases he treats. One of the links is to a " pamphlet " he produced especially for achalasia patients and their care-givers, but I think it would also be of great help to family members and friends who lack the understanding of what a person goes thru living with this disease. Before sharing the link, I just wanted to highlight who he gave credit to for their contributions to his booklet. Its refreshing to see a surgeon with such a caring attitude towards his group of patients. " Note: this pamphlet is written especially for the patient and his/her caregiver. Where possible simple English has been used to make it easier to understand. It is hoped that it will give the patient’s perspective to the condition. I am indebted to the .com Achalasia Support Group, for the information which does not fall into my own experience of the condition. Special thanks to Jerry Hastings, , Maggi , and Holt-, for their contributions and editorial comments. Guest guest
Thank you for the clarification on that Kim. When I got to the end of the pamphlet, after sending it out, I spotted her name being credited for compiling the information. As some of the longer term members know, Joan, from South Africa, was one of the most beloved members of this group, who tragically died June 26, 2005 not long after having an esophagectomy operation.  , who has contributed in many significant ways to our group wrote about her a year after her passing saying  " My intention here is not to bring up a sad point in the group here but to remember to pass on our experences and knowledge to anyone wanting to know about this disease. "  Without knowing Joan many of us have fulfilled what Joan would have wished for to pass on our collective knowledge, which is what has made this group as great as it is!  ________________________________ From: Kim <kimmydawn42@...> " achalasia " <achalasia > Sent: Monday, March 26, 2012 9:51 PM Subject: Re: Achalasia for " beginners "  I've read this before, and I just wanted to clarify that it was written by Joan Pearse.
