Welcome back Wanda,

Sandy

I'm back

From: "Wanda M.M." <atwork56@...>

Hi everyone! For the last 2 weeks, I've been without a computer. Well, its finally back. I'm still trying to reload all the info back into it, but at least I have my computer back.

I just wanted to thank everyone for all their help with all my many problems. Icky skin, slow inch loss, coughing fits when breathing, etc, etc. The many ideas and suggestions you all gave, helped in many ways, and the others I'm still trying.

My latest endeavor is to do the LL breath while lifting light weights. I do 3 breaths per exercise and I try to keep the movement going through the in and out breaths. Sometimes, I get so winded, that I can't maintain a constant movement, but I do my best. After about a week of this, I'll let you know how things are going.

Thank you all again for all your help and support.

Welcome back Grammy Pat :-) As for Tami, she has left the list for awhile. She's OK, just weak. Needing rest and some tender loving care from I can understand. I'm sure Rashelle will inform you completely on this.

Welcome Back Grammy Pat,

I am so glad you are back!!! We missed you.

I am tickled that you are back with such a strong commitment to your goals.

Thank you so much for sharing the messages of Life Lift. I will look forward to hearing from anyone you sent to me.

Last time I heard from Tami she had decided she needed to leave the lists to take care of her health. She was doing better, but her family felt she really needs to focus on healing herself. I think that is wise so we need to just leave her alone and let her heal.

I know that she is such a caring and giving soul that if she remained on the list she would want to help others, when she really needs to just focus on herself for now. I know that she had been so generous in offering her time and efforts to those who needed her and she was getting a lot of mail off the list. I don't think she was really up to handling that and was overdoing herself.

The best we can all do is let her rest, leave her to stay off the computer and just pray for her that she will be in perfect health soon.

I am so happy you are back filling the list with your positive energy.

Love,

Rashelle

The problem is this: how many people who have had WLS

actually somehow manage to gain the weight back by nibbling

on this, and that, and 'circumventing' the whole purpose of

having a smaller stomach? Lots!

> My doc is useless for weight loss. A while back she actually

PFTS! Useless, indeed. Have you considered requesting that

you be sent to a registered dietician? (Granted, having seen one

myself, I don't have much faith in their advice as far as diabetics

go... but, for mostly healthy people, their advice may be more

appropriate).

> My insurance wants me to try Xenical, Meridia or phentermine.

Xenical just

I've heard bad things about all of them. I forget what it was with

Meridia, though. You might try looking at medlineplus.gov under

their " Drug Information " link for info about the various meds. My

doc, too, wanted me to try phentermine. I'm not usually having

physical problems with appetite - it's all up here in my head 90%

of the time. What good is a pill going to do for THAT? Nada!

> I'm supposed to be on a " very low calorie diet. " What does that

Again, PFT. Shame on your doc for not explaining!

Hey, guess what! If you join 24-Hour Fitness and get the " All

Club " level, you can use ANY 24-Hour Fitness... so, if they have

one in Savannah... ;) I'm a member in Round Rock, and I like it. I

use the pool, mostly. The music's a bit loud sometimes in the

weight room - but they do have an amazing array of equipment

out there. Afraid I don't know jack or squat about the Kid's Club.

JUST DO IT! NOW! Get off the computer, go over there and take a

stroll - even if it's only 5-10 mins (I never could handle treadmills,

always give me shinsplints). SHOO! This is your

If money's not a big obstical for you, and you're looking for

something balanced and convenient (For me, convenience is a

big part of why I gain weight!) I can recommend NutriSystem. I

don't know how it falls under insurance and/or tax refund rules,

etc. Overall, it runs about $270 or so for the pre-packaged meals.

You then add in small amounts of protein/dairy (I go through

about 1 24-pack of string cheese and 5 cups of yogurt every 2

weeks), LOTS of salad greens, and fresh fruits and vegetables.

Most of the food is good (With a few notable exceptions).

If you're interested in looking at more info, the website is

nutrisystem.com. If you're REALLY interested, I can send you a

coupon for $15 off your first order. They also have a " 50 Click "

program where by reading their Daily Dose (sorta like 's

message of the day) and clicking on an icon you can save $10

every 50 days.

The best part is absolutely NO real counting. A little measuring

here and there, but the program is a lot like the food-mover in

that you get a Diary with little circles to x out for each meal

indicating your entree, and then a circle for which add-ins you're

supposed to have with each meal.

Every 10 lbs you lose, they also send you a little beanie-baby

type bear :) I call them my $250 bears - heh.

Have you ever tried WW? They do also have flex. I have learned in the past year it is a doable program if you work it. You will not lose tons of weight because it is a lifestyle change. I dont remember how much you have to lose but I am glad the surgery thing did not work for you right now. I have been hearing a lot of negatives towards it lately. maybe just the sign of the times.

There are many programs that are doable if you can work it! :) The problem

is that 97% of us can't stick to them. Yes, I agree that WW is a lot better

program than most but the failure rate is still dismally high.

Ann --

I did a very low cal weight loss. (Was doing about 900 calories a day.) For 5 months last year I was on a medically supervised liquid fast. Dropped about 65 pounds in 5 months. Granted, when I started eating again -- some of the weight has come back. But that was to be expected. To be honest, the liquid fast was a lot easier to do than the eating has been. Once I got past the first two weeks it was not to tough to do. But after 5 months I was done -- not that I wanted to start eating again -- just didn't want to drink another one of those shakes!

For a couple of months when I started eating again I was on a very low dosage of phentermine. To help control the munchies, etc. It is not something I would want to be on long term. I took 1/2 a tab every morning. As prescribed by my physician. I am also diabetic & have high blood pressure.

If you want more information on the Very Low Cal -- check out www.bettermd.net. This is where I ordered my supplements from, etc. The medical director is a friend of mine -- and has been really encouraging. Doc Murdy would even be willing to call & chat with your doc about it if you would want him to.

My husband is wanting to do the liquid fast when he gets back from Africa (only 5 more days!). I will probably do it again with him -- it will be easier for him if I am doing it as well.

Next Monday I will see my weight loss doc again. Then on Friday I will see my dietitan & will have my first meeting with the clinical psychologist for some behavior modifaction. Should be an interesting week!

Would you want to do a treadmill challenge/accountability thing together? I need some help in that area as well. I'd be willing to work something out with you.

My insurance would accept that for the 6 month requirement but it just

doesn't make sense to me since you can't stay on it for the long term. When

you started eating solid food again was your appetite significantly reduced?

Might be worth a shot though.

I think being in a village in Ghana would be a good weight loss plan. We

stayed in hotels as tourists of course. We got terribly ill a few times but

not a good weight loss method.

Yes. Should be interesting. I had my first visit with a psychologist

yesterday. You'll be happy to know that I'm " free of psychopathology. " :)

A psych eval is an insurance requirement for surgery.

>

> Would you want to do a treadmill challenge/accountability thing together?

I'd love to. The problem is I have 3 more week long trips this summer. My

sister has a recumbent bike but I feel like my legs hit my belly so I'll

probably just walk this week. I'm taking the wheelchair for my mom (she can

walk but not long distances) but my sister is somewhat mobility impaired too

(7 foot surgeries). I can walk at night after the kids go to bed. My mom

and sister will be in the apartment to watch the kids and there is a small

lake in the complex I can walk around. Pushing my mom in the wheelchair is

good exercise, especially if she has a kid on each knee. :) Savannah is 10

degrees cooler than Houston too so it feels wonderful. :)

Gotta run. Still gotta pack. Had car trouble today so I wasted time taking

it to the shop. Right now we need to take the camper to storage since it's

been sitting in the driveway since last weekend's trip to the beach. Don't

wanna upset the deed restriction commitee. Our neighborhood is reasonable

but no reason to push it.

15%. Quite a bit of difference from 97%. It's a tool that you have to work

hard to use.

> PFTS! Useless, indeed. Have you considered requesting that

Insurance won't pay for it unless I'm diabetic. If I thought it would help

I'd go in a second.

If I felt full it would make this much easier. I never feel full. Well, I

did when I was pregnant. It was amazing how having a little head pressing

on my stomach made me feel full with a normal amount of food.

> Hey, guess what! If you join 24-Hour Fitness and get the " All

I'll check the price for all club vs. just the one near our house. It would

be nice for to use one near work on his lunch hour. It's just

impractical to start right now since I'll be out of town for 3 more week

long trips this summer.

> JUST DO IT! NOW! Get off the computer, go over there and take a

> stroll - even if it's only 5-10 mins

I DID!!!!! :) I walked for 30 min. at a slow 2 mph pace with a gentle 2.5

incline. Piece of cake. I can't find my heart monitor that goes with the

treadmill. That's ok though because right now I just need to start moving

on a consistent basis.

> If money's not a big obstical for you, and you're looking for

> something balanced and convenient

Money is a huge obstacle. WW is $44 per month, gym is $40 per month,

monthly weigh-ins with doc are $20 per month. That's $100 per month right

there. I did Nutrisystems long ago. It pissed me off having a tiny little

woman who has never been overweight a friggin day in her life and has

minimal training trying to counsel me. The food was gross back then too and

it was very expensive. If I was single I might try it for the convenience

but I have to feed my family so I have to buy lots of groceries and I can't

pay for Nutrisystem food as well. I've very glad it's working for you

though.

Losing hope is tough. Your plans for exercise, eating in moderation,

From what I am told even the surgery you have to work the program. If you overeat you get sick is the only thing that a program would not work. My best advice to you that I could give is start over with a journal and see where your eating is off. Make better choices. Remember water and exercise. There is a program out there for you. Have you been to a dietician? I would love to find a nutrion class I could take. I know our hospital had one a while back I may look into it again.

When I started solid food again my appetite was significantly reduced. Still is, compaired to what it was.

The liquid fast is not something that I can do for a long time. But it gave me the jump start that I needed.

The phentermine did help with controlling how much I ate. My doc tells me it only works for a short amount of time -- can't remember how long it was. I took myself off of it. I took a very small dose. But I decided that I needed to learn how to eat right & find the exercise program that works for me -- didn't want the meds to become a crutch for me. That is kind of how I am feeling about the liquid fast right now. I need to learn how to do this in the "real world."

Let me know when you want to start a treadmill/exercise challenge/accountability thing. I will be traveling to Vancouver, BC for a week the first week of August -- and it will be difficult to maintain a regular exercise regime. Maybe we can start sometime the middle of August. We can get started making it a habit before school starts & schedules/routines get changed again!

I can't believe I have gotten so big.. my mom wanted me to visit one

of my old high school friends and I just couldnt do it.. since high

to go see her.. My mom had these chairs on her porch and my butt was

WOW nice vacation to go home to family. And you were having home sick blues there a while back. How is your little sister doing? Did you get a chance to drive threw Beverly and see all the changes. Music theatre burned down a bit back. Aug 1st great time to start over. Why the kids going back so soon? Ours go back Sept 1.

smaller clothes - woo hoo!!!! and mini vaca's rock! Glad you had a chance to spend time with Jay Live, Love, Laugh

I'm back

Hi folks,

I am back from my mini-vacation. It was nice to get to rest and relax (again) with Jay. He loved it here in my home city/state this time, so that's cool. I'm a spoiled girl - he took me out shopping one day and bought me a few outfits. That was fun, cuz as scarey as it is I was able to buy smaller clothes. Told me he approves of Curves (LOL) and is going to give me the $ to pay for a few months worth of it. That is cool!! Anyway, I am supposed to have my weigh/measure this next week - we'll see how I feel coming off TOM. Hope you all had a great weekend and I'll touch base again soon -
