Guest guest
~~ have they ruled out a hiatal hernia? I had long term tummy upset for which I took ranitidine. But also, there are consequences of long term use of PPIs ~~ Your stomach *needs* acid to work. And it keeps trying to override the PPIs/reducers, so you get more acid at times than without. Still, hope there's more insight/experience than this among our members. xox, /WV > > Hi Group! First I want to say to those who are struggling that I truly feel for you. It got to a point I could not even swallow water, it would squirt back out. I had terrible crushing spasms. Most times when I tried to swallow anything I would get a spasm and then saliva would churn and churn and I would have to keep spitting to get rid of it and whatever I tried to eat would come out too. Yes Somehow, like most of us, I did manage to get enough high calorie food in me to keep me going, but certainly not healthy and not consistently. After my operation...I think 2-3 weeks on soft diet...I was FINE! And I still do not have a problem swallowing my food, or drinks. I had my surgery done laproscopically at Albany Med in NY. > > 3 years later I have a question of my own. Is there anyone out there, post HM, who has had stomach problems? Such as...extreme acid, nausea and lack of appetite? My stomach is WRECKED and they are trying to find out why. My GI ordered a gastric empyting study..normal. Tomorrow I have an upper GI. In the meantime I am barely eating anything, not because it wont go down, because my appetite is gone and my stomach is sick. I am on double acid blockers and Zofram for nausea. Wondering if possibly my " wrap " has come loose? I do suffer from progressive cirrhosis of my liver (Hep C related). The dr did see erosions upon EGD. I know you guys are not docs but if any of this sounds familiar post HM...please let me know..THANKS and hugs to all > >
Guest guest
I am never hungry either! I started noticing this 6 years ago soon after starting on Nexium for my reflux. Now I hardly eat/drink anything and I am still never hungry. > > Hi Group! First I want to say to those who are struggling that I truly feel for you. They run the full range of the things you have mentioned and more. When you have achalasia and a stomach issue you can't just jump to an answer and say it is typical in achalasia. A stomach problem could be anything and maybe not even related to achalasia. They probably will have to run you through the tests like they would anyone else. Guest guest
Hi , Great to hear such a positive story about a HM! I wish mine had been so straightforward, but I'm getting there! Re. your stomach discomfort, sounds like what I had 4 years ago - a bacterial infection in my stomach, called H. Pylori. It was the worst, had no appetite for months, had endoscoopies and colonoscopies etc. BUt after triple therapy of 2 antibiotics and a PPI (twice), the infection was killed. I did have to go see a nutritionist afterwards as my stomach was damaged and my nutrition levels were all over the place, but that was also sorted quickly enough. Hope your tests go ok and you can find a solution (Ireland) > > Hi Group! First I want to say to those who are struggling that I truly feel for you.
