Guest guest
Dear Pete, I am still interested in an Atlanta training and my house offer is still open. Sincerely, Marsha VanDeusen wrote: Several things after my long (almost) silence: 1. I apologize for my general lack of responsiveness lately. The five-week training trip was TOO long, though the groups were terrific and the trainings went well! There was a good reason for setting the trip up the way I did, but I got too far away from my base. Getting back, I needed several days to get all the details of daily operation sorted out and I've had several clients in Miami (or who came to Miami) and several phone clients. 2. I have e-mails to answer (lots of them) on my laptop drive and others on my desktop drive and can't find where the ones on the laptop are stored (Outlook) to move them to the desktop. If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate them! I'm at the point now where my two major tasks are editing the Level 1 DVD material we shot at the end of my trip and getting my e-mail box caught up. 3. My plan at present is to stay in Miami through July and most of August (the most pleasant time of the year here?!). There is a group coming from Europe to train for a week, and there are several folks who have expressed an interest in coming to Miami for small-group trainings. I'll be happy to set these up now that I'm back. Please contact me if you are interested and let me know training levels and dates that would work for you. 4. There are also groups in Atlanta, Boston/Cape Cod, NYC, Dallas/Forth Worth and central Ohio who expressed interest in training this Fall. I'll probably start the last week in August and train through September. In October I plan to be back in Brasil to see my son and his family, 's family and some South American friends. So if you are interested in any of these sites, please let me know ASAP, so I can see which of them we can put together in the early Fall. 5. As we prepare the DVD's and website, I've been asked if there were those among you who were willing to provide any comments for attribution on the trainings you've taken with me. A simple statement of your level of knowledge and involvement with NF, your reaction to the training (also in relation to others you may have taken) and how it has completely transformed your life (just kidding) would be appreciated. Guest guest
Reference the Dip ROM, what sort of time scale are you looking for doing the course, how will it relate in qualification terms, just to get an idea of the scope of the qualification will this be of relevence when applying for a first time post or will the catch 22 scenario still rear its ugly head, finally will it be availiable towards Military resetlement. Sorry for the posing questions just trying to get a handle on the course and maybe an outline of its contents. Thanks Gaz Rothwell

Guest guest
I have no issue with the first two and hope to participate when my rota permits. However the notion of a Professional Body is one I find difficult to get enthusiastic about. The role of the offshore/remote medic is very diverse and driven by corporate requirements. Some are doing admin., some safety, some in places like Iraq are solely medics. How would a prosfessional body represent everybody, would the companies even recognise it? They often pay little attention to governments and international opinion so why should they listen to a group of medics? What if someone else sets up another body due to ideological differences( as is always the case) ? I'm already a member of the RCN which provides me with certain benefits and support, though I'm not sure if they have a remote medic group withing their structure, and don't really feel the need to belong to another. It is worth discussing though. > Message date : Jun 29 2004, 12:04 AM > From : " Ross Boardman " > To : " Remote Medics " > Copy to : > Subject : Update > Folks, > > A lot of things tend to drop together at the same > time and often after much silence. Guest guest
Gaz, We are probably looking towards 2-3 years to complete the course. In total there is 1200 hours of study broken down over 10 compulsory and 2 optional modules. Each of these units is broken down into 5 units of 20 hours each. 4 of the units form the taught component of each module, each ending with an multiple choice and the 5th is the assessment. If all 5 are passed, then the student has cleared that module. All the course will be available online and assessed through the same medium too, although there will be a lot of work to do in your own time to write up papers etc. The course is post graduate and can be extended to an MSc after completion if the student still has any willpower left We will investigate if this can be availanble via resettlement. The current syllabus is at http://www.remotemedics.co.uk/diprom.php . However, this is in the process of a minor re-write, but the 90% is still correct. Guest guest
-Hi All, Just Some points. 1)Would it be possible to run a BSS in Scotland? The skills covered medics know them already but it is great to practice them and keep clinical skills up to date. 2)DipRom sounds quite good. Hopefully i will do it when it is up and running. Any thing that improves you as a medic is always worth while. 3)Professional Body - Don't know about this one. Some companies might recognise it some won't. As it is still in the planning stage hopefully this point will be resolved in time before the Body is launched onto the scene. Guest guest
Hi Gordon, There would be three piles on the table: 1 Those with qualifications and experience in remote medicine This would cover most of the guys on this list. 2 Those with higher qualifications but no present experience in remote medicine More than likely to be doctors who are looking into remote medicine as a future component of their careers 3 Those with neither qualification nor experience We can name a few of these All of pile 1 would be welcomed aboard. Each candidate in pile 2 will be considered on their own merits and may get panel voted or interviewed. The panel will be 3 or 5 people and a majority vote will put the prospect into pile 1. Pile 3 is more than likely to be rejected. Hope that clears it up. Cheers, Ross > > Ross even though this is post grad. Guest guest
Hi Guys 1: I would like to see the BSS course run in Glasgow, 2.Excellent news about the course, will look forward to it with anticipation, will certainly keep it as an otion. 3. I feel that a professional body would be a good idea, as a member of the NMC, I get all the benefits from this organisation e.g representation, legal aid, but most importantly a code of conduct to work within. As a profession, and thats what we are, a profession allied to medicine remote medics need this form of organisation. As a nurse, if the worst happened, and my practice is safe and within guidelines and protocols laid down by the NMC, then I can stand up in court and say so, with the backing of the NMC. Remote medics can only utilise whatever individual professional body we are members of, or rely on medical indemnity policies. The above do not, and would not carry the same clout as a professional body with clear protocols and guidelines, with all the members intrests at heart. I also think the t-shirt would look cool on holiday. Guest guest
Hi Jim, Surely there is some confusion in your last post? If by your reference to the 'NMC' you mean Nursing and Midwifery Council then this is the governing body that lays down the professional guidelines for Nurses. It is the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) or UNISON who would provide benefits, or professional/legal representation and not the NMC. It is the NMC that keeps the register of nurses and midwives, and can decide whether an individual is struck off. RCN or UNISON would be the professional organisation defending a member under such circumstances. > > Jim Storrar > > ===== > Message date : Jun 29 2004, 12:04 AM > From : " Ross Boardman " > To : " Remote Medics " > Copy to : > Subject : Update > Folks, > > A lot of things tend to drop together at the same > time and often after much silence.
