Is there anyone else that

I have been doing BFL w/o a gym membership using dumbbells and a

treadmill. However, having said that, I got a GREAT deal on a

personal trainer at a gym five minutes from my house and will be

starting that first of the year.

I workout at home also with dumbells. For Cardio I do interval

training with videos such as Cathe Friedrich's IMAX www.cathe.com

Hi ,

My son was put into his first cast very close to your sons age with a 60 degree curve. We go to Utah for our casting, it is much closer to California. Anyways...sounds like you are doing great and making alot of decisions. A brace will not work for an infant because it cannot fit the torso properly. I think that you are making the best decision for your little one. has done great in his cast and met all of his milestones early despite having the cast on. Oh, never wore a brace he went straight to a cast and every Dr. I saw (3 in California and Dr. D'Astous) agreed that a brace would be ineffective for a child so young. Good Luck !!!

Hello and welcome! This board is absolutely wonderful! Full of

support and wisdom. My daughter was diagnosed at 6 mo. at 50

degrees, but unfortunately, we wasted time listening to the ped.

ortho. who told us to wait and see, so you are definately on the

right track! Don't let them intimidate you, and as I've learned

lately, sometimes you just have to bypass one person, and go above

them! I'm so glad you are alread getting in to Erie! Good luck and

keep us posted!

Thanks . I am definitely intimidated by doctors. I had so many questions for the ortho when we were there on Monday that I was too afraid to ask him. I think I will feel better going to Erie since I think the doctors will be more on top of their game and be more upfront with sharing information than this guy was. Honestly, I question whether he has even treated an infant for this before.

Hi Betty:

Welcome to the Group. I'd spend as much time as you can today &

tomorrow learning as much as you can about the anatomy of the knees.

There are a bunch of different bones, ligaments, tendons and

cartilage surfaces which interact with each other. Your problem

could be any combination of them, or even something in your feet,

hips or back.

Search for " knee anatomy " or something like that on

http://www.Google.com and you'll find plenty to keep you busy.

Try to think in terms of what is causing your pain, not just how to

mask it. You ortho may have some ideas, but most likely he or she

will just give you a quick exam and tell you to strengthen your VMO

(the vastus medialis oblique, which is the muscle on the inside of

your thigh). Try to get him/her to dig a little deeper.

If you do have CP, you (and your doc) need to understand that CP is

usually the result of some other dysfunction in the body. This can

be a muscle imbalance, an anatomical irregularity, a flexibility

issue or any combination of these. It isn't easy, and your ortho may

not be able to help you with this, but that is the key to getting

better.

Ask the doc:

1) If your kneecap (patella) is tracking properly in the trochlear

groove.

2) If you have some other obvious problem, like flat-feet or knock-

knees.

3) If it's possible that it is not CP at all. Perhaps some or all of

your pain is from your ligaments, tendons and/or muscles.

You don't have much time before your appointment, but that should get

you going. Let us know how it goes with the doc and we'll go from

there.

Good luck,

Doug

and Ian,

Welcome to CAST! You will find this group to be compassionate, educated and

very active. Please read www.infantilescoliosis.org in its entirety when

you have time, for more info, testimonials...

ISOP has a video on " early treatment with serial corrective plaster "

available, if your interested. Since this treatment is not widely accepted,

we offer this info free. I can send you the video/info tomorrow and if you

decide that you want to keep it for future reference, please send ISOP

$15.00..If not, please send back to me so the video can be recirculated to

other interested parents.

welcome christi. i am not sure how you rate as far as fitness level but i can give you some ideas. i like karen voight, her stuff is good for all levels except her energy sprint sounds a little tough for straight beginners. some of us have been recommending cathe friedrich basic step. it cost bit more then most dvd's but is has 5 workouts on it and she is so worth it. i think gilad would be right up your ally. he is fun not to difficult, and easy to follow. denise austin is good for beginners in my opinion. she is a little annoying(just to happy sometimes) but one can get past all that and really have fun working out. that is what i have i am sure you will get some more great ideas. welcome to the group again.

Christi - welcome. I think Tamilee Webb's Tighter Assets Series would be a nice start. There are two DVD's: one cardio (30 min) and one that is a step workout that also gives the arms and abs some work too. There are also supplemental workouts for the abs and buns on these workouts too.

Christi,

I live in (I am very close to Dallas). Yoga is wonderful

for flexibility and stress. Kassia, and Tonya are the perfect

people to ask about recommendations for yoga videos/DVDs since I am

new myself to yoga so I am not the best person to ask. I agree with

you about buying the cardio video/DVD (of course, with your doctor's

permission) to help with your weight loss goals. There is nothing

better then cardio to burn fat. (Cardio works so well that I

sometimes lose too much weight and have to cut back on it.) There

are so many great cardio workouts... you should pick something you

enjoy doing. Do you like step, kickboxing or regular aerobics?

Whatever you like there is a DVD/Tape for you.....all the way from

beginner to extremely advanced. Any way I can help just let me know.

I am not sure which one id like since I havent tried any but the walk in place boring tapes. LOL (at least to me) Tae bo has always looked fun to me but Ive been told many times that its for someone who has been exercising a lil while or youll end up hurting yourself. I like pop and r & b music and would probably like something thats upbeat. :)

Hi Christi,

You can also call collage video (1-800-433-6769) which is what I did

when I first started step and told them I needed a recommendation

for non-dancy step tapes. The people are so helpful there and

provided great recommendations. Don't forget to ask for a catalog

which tells you about all the tapes (Aerobic's choreography, impact,

level, music). Carolyn (on this forum) is also a great person to

ask....she absolutely knows what DVDs and tapes work. She has become

so fit because of her choices and knowledge.

My DH has offered you my DVDs/tapes....he said to help

yourself...LOL. Gawd, he is always trying to give away my collection.

Maybe, I should give away one of his guitars with each

tape/DVD...hehehe. :-)
