Guest guest
According to Designer Whey~a protein powder company [someone called them and asked this question on my site] and I also e-mailed them as well on this. They said that cooking the protein affects it biochemically but that the protein amount in the powder is the same as when it isn't cooked. So basically the protein when cooked is not digested as quickly as when it is not cooked but the protein itself is still in tack. Also all protein sources are biochemically affected like this as well when cooked...meaning that the protein is always absorbed by the body quicker in the raw state but the protein itself is not compromised in the cooking process. Hope this helps~ Joann Re: new here > ok posting a reply to my own post. Don't ya all love people like > me. Guest guest
Hi and welcome Amy, Some advice - Go get your a meal worksheet out of the book, take it to a copier, and make 72 copies. Then sit down and figure out every meal you will have for the first 2 weeks. Then go to the grocery store and buy all the food and prepare as much as you can (portioned out). This is a much better way to start. By the end of your 1st 2 weeks you may not have to do this pre-planning quite as much, but believe me, it's worth it at the beginning, especially if you're not used to eating 6 times a day. Park New Here Hello, everyone. My name's Amy, I'm new to this whole Body For Life Program. Today's actually my second day on it. Today I did a lower body weights workout and I feel like jello. I think my biggest challenge is going to be the meals! I did ok yesterday, I at least got 5 meals in but they weren't as balanced as they needed to be. Hopefully today I can get it right. I'm looking forward to giving and receiving some support! Have a wonderful day everyone!! AMY

Guest guest
Excellent advice Park!!! Its also a great habit to get into ... I am definitely going to do that for my next challenge ... I've just recently started planning and I think if I had done it sooner I would have done much better! Rita New Here Hello, everyone. My name's Amy, I'm new to this whole Body For Life Program. Guest guest
I think everyone here will agree that planning is pretty essential to success on BFL. This is what we do... I make sure to have three non-cook meals a day. Usually it's cottage chees and fruit or yogurt. I have one myoplex lite everyday. I'm not organized in any other area of my life, but BFL. Too funny. My hubby thinks I'm a pod person. Anyway. The top shelf of my fridge is large jar stuff like chicken broth, spaghetti sauce, fat free mayo and sour cream...stuff like that. Middle shelf and largest is milk, yogurt, containers of cooked wild, brown rice and ww pasta Lower shelf is protein. Egg cartons, Cottage cheese, Tuna packets, Containers of cooked ground beef or turkey and chicken breasts. Then we have a fruit drawer that usually contains apples and grapefruit with some small veggies. Then the meat drawer usually has container of cut-up veggies (Tupperware sells new fridge container that keep veggies good for WEEKS), bags of baby spinach and lettuces for quick salads and baby carrots for snacking. Any meat we are going to fix for dinner we usually buy THAT day, so we don't have to freeze or store raw meat. I just bought some of those ziplock containers in 'snack' size to store mixes of brown rice and different meats for quick meals when we run out of our normal stuff (sometimes hubby goes nutz with his portions!) and that works GREAT. A normal day for me is: 1. 4 egg whites scrambled with 1/2 cup brown rice and salsa 2. myoplex lite 3. chicken breast, brown rice or WW pasta, large spinach/lettuce salad with balsamic vinagrette. 4. cottage cheese and grapefruit 5. Grilled fish or lean meat with wild rice and steamed broccoli or asparagus or green beans (we love fresh veggies) 6. cottage cheese with apple I LOVE to cook. But with this diet, I like things as simple as possible. On my free days I plan to cook things like Coq Au Vin to meet my creative needs, but during the week, the plainer the easier. I don't do anything fancy. Well, I hope this helped a little! Astra > Hello, everyone. My name's Amy, I'm new to this whole Body For Life > Program. Today's actually my second day on it. This whole post was just GREAT from Astra and I wanted to add that we do freeze meat and we buy veggies frozen also. So, since we've got a side by side refridge, we do the same thing in the freezer with organization. We keep free food on the top shelf, meat on the next, and veggies on the next. We buy meat in bulk from the butcher and then pack it up in ziplocs in meal sizes. (2 whole breasts of chicken to a bag.. 4 chops to a bag.. 1 steak to a bag.. etc!) The " freezer " , if you can call it that, wasn't even big enough for a pint of ice cream. Sometimes I just open the freezer we have now and drool. Serenity (who still dreams of that $4000+ KitchenAid Refridge she saw a few months ago. LOL. Not in this lifetime!)

Guest guest
Wow Shandelle - what an experience you have been, are going, and will go through! I am so happy that this is possible for you. I think it would be a grand way to start (just learning how to eat right, drink your water, and cardio) for the next few weeks. You will have loads of time to weight train after your son arrives as he'll be asleep most of the time! Obviously, it would be BEST if you could start the weight training now too, but the other two are important. The most important thing is to read the book (again if you need to) and do the nutrition and cardio part on a schedule. Meanwhile, plan when you will do the weights (I would highly recommend at home for a newborn baby - all you need is a bench and some dumbells) and what exercises you'll do. I presume you are not entering the " official " challenge, so take your before pics now and measurements. And you go, girl - LOSE THAT BABY FAT! I can relate! :0) Park New here Hi everyone, My name is Shandelle and I am about to start the BFL program again! I was on it once in 200 and lost 8 pounds and 2 dress sizes in 2 WEEKS!!! But then developed a blood poisoning (not related to BFL) and got really sick. I found it very hard to get my motivation back and am now bigger then ever. Part of my significant weight gain has been the fact that last October my husband and I went through the IVF process to have a baby. As I am unable to carry, they took my eggs, hubby's sperm...made embryos in a dish and then transferred them to my wonderful friend. She is now 36 weeks pregnant with our son who is due to be born July 7th. You can read more about this at http://www.canadianparents.com/articles/feature46h.htm Anyway, I gained about 45 pounds after the treatments due to some complications I had and a hormone imbalance. The i began the breastfeeding protocol so that I would be able to nurse my son and am now pumping about 8 ounces a day or so, but the protocol caused me to gain about another 15 - 20 pounds and I am now a whopping 250 pounds on a 5'8 frame. EEK! I have been looking into it and I can do the food, protein etc no problem on the BFL, while nursing so I am going to try again! To start though I am going to do the food, and the interval running EVERYDAY except the free day. I want to wait until we have our baby to start at the gym, so I know his schedule. Is this okay? If I haven't replied to this already.. what great progress you made You've proven that it can be done.. even if it's hard > I have been looking into it and I can do the food, protein etc no > problem on the BFL, while nursing so I am going to try again! Is this okay? I think that you might be shooting yourself in the foot by doing cardio every day. You'll run the risk of overtraining and could sabotage your progress.. why don't you start off doing it every other day like the book suggests and see how that goes? Serenity! Guest guest
Hi Deb, and welcome to the group! The key to eating well is planning. It seems hard at first, but if you can set asside time one day a week to put together your menue for the week and do any pre-cooking possible, then the meals just fall into place. I ALWAYS fall off plan when I do not have my food worked out. Those teen-aged daughters of your's ought to be able to help, too. Make them part of your success by asking them for help, maybe even put them in charge of one aspect of your plan. Maybe one of them will be your official weigher, or perhaps they get to check your log every night and verify that you worked out/ate/took sups, what ever you need help with. On Sunday cook up a bunch of chicken, break it into portion sizes and freeze. Then at meal time it is just grab and heat. Make sure your fruit is washed and ready to eat. I buy a watermellon and cut the whole thing up, then when I want that as my carb all I have to do is put some in a bowl. Many of your veggies can be cut up ahead of time and stored for several days in the fridge. ZipLoc bags are a must! The eating plan is not that complicated, it just take setting aside some time to plan it out. That old saw " A failure to plan is a plan to fail " is more true with BFL than anything I've ever done before. Alys

Guest guest
Welcome! Sounds like your life is BUSY!!! I think the simplest thing to do would be to photocopy the allowed foods page and when you make a meal pick 1 item from protein and 1 from carb and on 2 of your 6 meals add a veggie. That would keep it very simple. As you learn what's allowable and what isn't you can start getting into recipes, etc. But for the basics, remember 1 serving protein, 1 serving carb and at least 2 servings veggies a day. Put a copy of the food list on the fridge and/or pantry for easy reference. Colleen > Hi everyone....My name is Debbie Wells....wow...I just felt like I > just introduced myself in a 12 Step program. Guest guest
Hi ~I am glad you are doing well! I hope your Cancer Scare is all the way behind you my friend. Because I am new i am not too sure what is allowed here and wouldn't be considered " off-topic " but have you ever heard of an Organization called ChemoAngels?? I am a ChemoAngel myself...you can go check them out at www.chemoangels.com If you would like to know more about what we do, I would be happy to tell you about the program. If I have violated here please forgive me...maybe I should read a list of guidelines?? Is there a place to do such a thing? Ok...thanks for the encouragement and I will watch for your progress reports! Love, deb > > Hi Alys~Thanks so much for the welcome!!! Guest guest
Hi . Welcome. I'll offer the same, general advice I give everyone: 1) Always start with the least-invasive treatments first. More specifically: stay away from surgery until you've exhausted every other option and simply can't live with the pain. 2) Do as much research as you can about all the different treatments and types of doctors there are. For example, don't think that only an orthopedic surgeon can help. Often non-surgeons are more helpful for this condition. Try to find a pain specialist, osteopath (D.O.), doctor of applied kinesiology, doctor of physical medicine, musculoskeletal doctor. Even a good chiropractor or physical therapist can be invaluable. The key is to figure out what is wrong with your feet, knees, hips, back or whatever is causing your knee pain. You need somebody who will give you a thorough (1 to 2 hour) exam. Most surgeons spend only 10 or 15 minutes before making their diagnosis. 3) Keep a positive attitude. There are ways of getting you better. I have 3 kids of my own and I was miserable thinking about how I wouldn't be able to run around with them. Being miserable didn't help. You have to have the attitude that you WILL beat this thing. It will take alot of time and alot of work, but you WILL get better. Feel free to ask us questions and post more info. Good luck, Doug dougfromct2002@... P.S. - We're glad you found us too. > Hello!
