Guest guest
I tried cymbalta.......it had an immediate beneficial effect on pain/stiffness levels, but the side effets were horrible. This; however is normal for me with SSRI's but even more pronounced with cymbalta. I immediately felt calm and more energetic, dramatically so. But by day 3 I was sleeping all the time, my libido was dead, I couldn't tutor math for crap; something I pride myself on and how I make my living. This on only 30mg/day. Needless to say I stopped. I studied it though and for depression it is prob the best SSRI out there now and esp if you have fibro.
Guest guest
Delve in this site for Mg re depression, cellular energy, pain and etc. Malic acid form of Mg helps with energy. I get Mg chloride on ebay, cheaper than from the other site mentioned. Don't forget Mg's co-factor B6 and also the importance of fish oil for omega-3 fatty acids in mood. _http://george-eby-research.com/html/depression-anxiety.html_ (http://george-eby-research.com/html/depression-anxiety.html) Hope this helps mjh Posted by: " ph " _joey2276@... _ (mailto:joey2276@...?Subject= Re:%20cymbalta) _joey2276 _ (joey2276) Thu Apr 19, 2007 3:01 pm (PST) I tried cymbalta....I tried cymbalta....<WBR>...it had an immediat pain/stiffness levels, but the side effets were horrible. Guest guest
Amy, Cymbalta has been shown to CAUSE liver failure in 'some' folks and now carries that BLACK BOX warning on it... but just as no med is perfect for everyone,, you may be able to use it safely.. but if it were me, I'd not use it because of the extra warnings they have posted on the box regarding cymbalta and liver issues... I take Lexapro and before that I took Celexa when I was on treatment,, they worked well for me.. I know many others who have tried zoloft and paxil and both of those were very hard to get off of after treatment,, and I have seen others start on paxil and shake like crazy for weeks,,, so you see, not everything works well for everyone.. I'd certainly sit down with your doc and discuss the Black Box Warning on Cymbalta and ask your doc if he knows about that and why he is giving it to you and perhaps there is a different ssri you can take at least while you are on tx.. Has he checked your liver functions tests frequently? I'd say that if you are on this med and on treatment at the same time,, I'd want tests done either weekly or bi-weekly to make sure you catch any problem before it gets out of hand.. Our livers are the one thing that can regenerate thank goodness but who wants to damage it further... Here is a URL that you can go and read about Cymbalta ,, please scroll down the the Warning area and you can read for yourself,,, http://pi.lilly.com/us/cymbalta-pi.pdf I tried to copy and past just the pertinent info but it wouldnt let me copy it so you will have to go and read for yourself.. Ill post another article about cymbalta to follow this ,, jaxJurydoctor@... wrote: I have been on cymbalta pre treatment and now during treatment. Now I hear cymbalta is not good for my liver? Guest guest
Hi, I take Cymbalta. It does help with pain although at times I have to take opiates as well. I also take it for depression. For me the weight gain is controversial. I have gained weight on it but I don't feel as hungry as on some other meds. Guest guest
HI, I am on 90mg of Cymbalta as well as 150mg of Lyrica. I also have depression. However it's hard at times to know which medication is helping the most because my pain get so bad even taking taking all my meds don't seem to work. I wouldn't want to know what it would be like if I didn't have any of them. I also take Tramadol 50mg.and Skelaxin 800mg for pain. I have gain some weight, but I am over the strep throat I just caught I am going to start a daily exercise program for my self. I hear that's the best thing to do, even if we are in the worst pain we should at least walk. I hope this helps, not every med works for everyone, but I also have deficiencies which can pose a problem for me. But I do what I can and keep up with all my meds. Just wished there wasn't so many I had to take lol. But yes Cymbalta does help. Guest guest
Hi, I have been on Cymbalta since it first came out. I thought it wasn't helping but then when I went off I had aches and pains in places I didn't even realize I had! I am also on Wellbutrin. It seems like the combo of the two has helped even more than the cymbalta alone. After being on both for a couple of weeks I began to think better and even see more clearly. I think the combo helped because Cymbalta helps with the serotonin/norepinephrine and the Wellbutrin helps with the dopamine, which is also deficient when you have cfs/me. I am also on Lyrica and take ibubrpfen and vicodin as a backup. My best friend and I both have fibro. Our motto is, " We say Yes to Drugs. " (haha) I think anything, herbal or medicinal, that helps one have a better life, is good. P.S. Also on valcyte too. Please look at the new group for people on Valcyte or thinking on going on Valcyte, here's the link: Valcyte/ Sincerely, Jody Jody
Guest guest
I started cymbalta 60mg 2 1/2 months ago, for depression, but also for the benefit of helping with pain. It has helped me a GREAT deal with my mood, it's been a godsend for sure! I think it's helped some with pain too, though most of my pain is at night laying down. At night I take the cymbalta (can make you drowsy), 50mg trazodone and 1/4 soma. I just asked my GP this week if raising the dose could help produce more benefits and she said yes. I tried 90mg for one night but it knocked me out pretty good and I was draggy so I'm putting off trying it again for another few weeks, need to add in some other stuff now, like mercury chelation med. Regarding weight, I've always been tall and thin and though it could have been the stress of moving across country, I have not been as hungry, so the side effect of losing or controlling weight would be helpful for some people. I would definitely give it a try. I did try lyrica a couple years ago for pain, and gained a little weight but what bothered me the most was the uncomfortable bloating and I think some other side effects though now I can't remember. Good luck! ~Stacey --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now.
Guest guest
i have been on cymbalta for 3 years or so. i use it to reduce panic attacks, associated with cfs. My dr. explains that it is a very good med for cfs/fm because it does reduce pain and muscles aches. I still have occassional joint pain (knees, ankles, et al.) It is supposed to help mood, and general achiness, works well to prevent panic attacks, and is supposed to have the fewest of side effects. As patients with cfs/me/or fm we probably know more about side effects than most do. I haven't really noticed weight gain (not more than 10 lbs. or so) but it sure is hard to lose any. Although that may or may not : ) be from the med. Watch out for the withdrawal effects from cymbalta though (my dr. says there's not supposed to be any such thing with this med) (let me assure you, he's wrong!) don't stop suddenly! taper off very slowly if you intend to stop this med.- -- In , " Richman, Judith A. Guest guest
Cymbalta helps with pain but the only thing that has helped with sleep is Restoral. Doesn't work every single night but it works better than all other sleep meds. Guest guest
Hi, Gail, I've been through all the benzo's for sleep. Hell, I've been through every med except Cymbalta. I don't have any pain issues or at least not CFS or Fibro related ones, just fragmented and non restorative sleep. michael > > > > Hi, Anyone have any luck with Cymbalta and sleep disorders in CFS -- > > not for pain relief, but for help with fragmented and/or non > > restorative sleep. > > > > thanks, > > > > michael > > > > >
Guest guest
One of the things I find useful for sleep is Baclofen. While I was taking it as prescribed, 25 mg tid it did nothing for either pain or sleep. I read a post on one of the lists where someone was taking 50 mg at night. I tried it and it works well. When things get bad I've even used 75 mg at night with success.. It seems that any med that enhances GABA is useful in certain circumstances. The so-called mood stabilisers (antiepileptics) such as Dilantin are also useful in the same way. R Re: Cymbalta > > Hi, Gail, > > I've been through all the benzo's for sleep. Guest guest
, Thanks for the tip on Baclofen. I actually tried it about ten years ago when I was a patient of Dr. Jay Goldstein but I wasn't having such bad sleep problems then and I wasn't trying it for sleep - I think Jay was having me try it for my cogntive problems and it didn't seem to do much for that. It seems worth another try if I can wrangle an Rx from one of my docs. Re: sleep apnea -- I did get diagnosed with 'very mild apnea' -- three years ago. I tried a CPAP machine for three months and it did nothing. I've considered another sleep study but their expensive and given the how little the CPAP machine did before, I'm skeptical of going through it again. michael
Guest guest
Had a massive spasm attack lasting 12 hours in May, which is the worst I've had since before my HM. It was so bad, I wanted to be put out of my misery. Phenergan suppositories always stop attacks for me, but not that one. I cried and cried. I sent my dr from mayo clinic a desperate e-mail asking what I needed to do, and he suggested trying neurontin, tofranil, or cymbalta. Took the e-mail to a clinic, and they wrote cymbalta to try first. Apparently cymbalta, an antidepressant, has been approved by the FDA to treat pain. Proud to say that it's been 3.5 weeks, and I haven't had any spasms since! I was having mini attacks pretty regularly before I started it. Anyone else tried it? I'm hoping it continues to help! in MS
Guest guest
I've been using Paxil (paroxetine) in a sub-therapeutic dosage (5-10mg/day) for years now as a prophylactic for NCCPs. Works like a charm -- I can definitely tell if I've missed my dose a few days in a row.
