Guest guest
The best known surgeon in Australia that we know about is Dr. Bessell in Adelaide. Probably has performed more HM's than any other surgeon in Australia. Generally have only heard the best about him. One recent patient, who had posted to this Board until recently, had less than optimum results. You might want to use the search feature of this message board and enter the doctor's name. It is the general feeling that it is usually worth the trip to get the best surgeon.  Good luck Craig. On this Board you are never alone.  ________________________________ From: woolie_man <craig.waters@...> achalasia Sent: Friday, June 8, 2012 10:01 AM Subject: Melbourne, Australia Surgeons with Acalasia Experience  Can anyone recommend a surgeon based in Melbourne with experience in performing Hellers Myotomy? I was referred to a surgeon who told me he'd had 'lots' of experience only to find he'd performed the procedure on 20 patients in total. Is this just the case in Australia or can I find more experience surgeons? thanks in advance for your response. Craig.
Guest guest
Craig, I'm in the same boat - trying to decide which surgeon to entrust with my only esophagus. I'm in Sydney, and while I don't want to get sued for listing names of doctors who clearly weren't keeping up-to-date with latest research and techniques (informing me that they always do Nissen fundoplication, in one example), I was impressed by Dr. nsen at the St. Private Hospital in Kogarah. He told me that he first started doing myotomies in 1995, and that up until now he has done on the order of 100 laparoscopic HM procedures. I may end up scheduling the procedure with him, but the decision is an agonising one. Guest guest
Thanks for everyone's response, does anyone know anybody based in Melbourne worth contacting? It's just I'd like to try someone locally before I try someone interstate. Any suggestions? Thanks again for your response, great to know there is a community out there with the same questions/problems!
