What happens during and after an esophageal dilation?

Hello!

I will be having an esophageal dilation in a week. I just had a few questions.

What type of sedation do they use for this procedure? Does it hurt? How long

will I have to stay in the hospital afterwards? Will I need to have a barium

swallow afterwards? (I hate the stuff you have to drink to make your esophagus

expand or something, I couldn't swallow it all immediately and it completely

fuzzed up my mouth, but I thought the barium tasted good, lol.) Thank you for
