I don't believe everyone does that but I think it is a good thing. It helps to make sure the myotomy is complete so needing a redo is less likely. Some surgeons just use an endoscope to see how easy they can pass it through the LES. I seem to remember that some use a light on the endoscope shining from inside the LES to look for dark bands in the myotomy where the muscle is still thick needing more cutting. I think the manometry would be better because it can measure the pressure at the myotomy. Intraoperative manometry during laparoscopic Heller myotomy improves outcome in pediatric achalasia. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18206457 This means they should not only be good at knowing what achalasia looks like manometrically in children before treatment, they should be good at knowing what it looks like after treatment. Another plus for the Children's hospital is that they will be experts in pediatric fundoplication if that is needed. notan
Guest guest
Does anyone else have pain either while or immediately after eating? Taniea has been not eating because she hurts to bad after eating. Also does anyone have any ideas as to what she can eat to lessen her pain? Guest guest
Before the myotomy I used to have a sharp pain under the ribs on the right side. I found that eating softer foods and making sure to take smaller bites seemed to help some. It doesn't always work but it is worth a try. Guest guest
I called the Dr this and asked if they could suggest anything for the pain Taniea has while eating. They suggested carafate or notripyline (sp?). Do any of you have any recommendations and experience with these medications?
