Hi Sri, I am also from the bay area!

I was diagnosed with Achalasia in 2009, had a HM and Part Fundo.

I started having problems after a year on and off with food getting stuck and so

on. I went to Kaiser and after two

dilations my doctor said he wouldn't go higher than 20mm, which is nothing. So

I got authorization to get treatment

outside Kaiser and found a specialist at USC, Dr. Lipham. He was very

knowlegable and a comfort for me to talk

to a doctor who really understood this disease. After a few tests he said I had

a failed myotomy, and recommended balloon dilation at

30mm. We did that but latest only 3 weeks. Went back in February of this year

and he did a 35mm which has lasted till this

day. No problems as of yet.

Also UCSF has specialist too!

Hope this helps!

Hi , Thanks for the response. So, who did the HM for you? It sounds like

Dr.Lipham was not the one?

Also, how old are you, if I may ask?

Some statistics suggest one favorable treatment vs. other based on age. For <

40, they say dilations may only work for less than half the people.

And also, I read somewhere that these days they first do the HM before any

dilations.

I'm scared to think of what if in case dilation & HM both fail!!

Thanks,

Sri
