Hi ,

I remember seeing some discussion on that here only a few week ago.

currently am scheduled for one in less than a month and while I know it is a

fairly new procedure(and I believe still in a trial phase), a few of them being

done around the country (per my surgeon).

Thanks ,

I just did a quick search,thanks! Unfortunately I didn't learn anything new,

but I did read some information that seems a little bit misguided regarding the

procedures. I will be having the TEEM method done to do the myotomy and from

what the surgeon has said, patients who have had this done already have had the

same success as people who have had the laproscopic surgery. I believe there is

an article you can find on the internet out of San Diego (which my surgeon was

involved in) that again, states this.

I'm nervous about having it done this way, but I really believe my Doc knows

what he's doing. And on a positive note.. not gas pain from the lapro. surgery

or the longer recovery time. This procedure has a 1-2 day recovery.

Hi ,

in the german speaking forum (forum.achalasie.com)are a few people, who had a

myotomy with this methode named POEM (perorale endoscopic myotomy). They are

satisfied with this methode, which is (in Germany)done at the University

Hospital in Hamburg. It is really a new methode and no long term results are yet

available. The methode is about 3 years old and invented by a Japanese Prof. H.

Inoue. The results until now are as good as the lap.myotomy and there is no need

for a wrap with a similar outcome/ disadvantage of reflux with about 10%. All is

done endoscopically, making a tunel in the layers of the esophagus, going down

to the Muscle at the GE-Junction, which has to be cut.

Notan wrote about it, maybe you can find his posts,if you search " POEM " .

Just wondering if there are any surgeons here in Australia that know how to

perform the POEM (PerOral Endoscopic Myotomy) Surgery? Regards (Adelaide,

Australia)

Hi there

Anyone know who can do a transesophageal endoscopic myotomy in the uk. I am in

with the professor tomorrow to book in for my operation and will ask about this

procedure. It makes no sense to have a procedure which may take 6 weeks to

recover from.

Hi ,

Did you ever find anyone in Australia who did the POEM procedure?

I've sent some queries to the surgeons whose details I found on the web, and

asked the POEM question among others. If any of them respond, I'll post the

details. Here's hoping.

Andre
