Guest guest
This sounds like a friend of mine whose daughter was also diagnosed with PDD - she ended up being allergic to gluten and casein, and was put on a gluten and casein-free diet. Now she's 98% better. The malabsorption and diet issues, the extreme pickiness of eating and stomach upsets all sound just like her. There's a doc in Pittsburgh who deals with this - my friend's daughter was found to have enormous amounts of antibodies to gluten and now that she's not eating them anymore, she's almost back to normal. Good luck with your son! I know many ASD are related to gluten and casein (milk) intolerances. --------------------------------- Expecting? Get great news right away with email Auto-Check. Yes, we find gluten and milk intolerences in many with ASD but it isn't the ultimate cause - its the result and what keeps the child ill in many cases. Guest guest
Hi! Your son sounds just like our son. Conyers has been fevering for about a year now. Our doctor diagnosed him last month with . His episodes come every 3 to 5 weeks with high fever, a nasty throat (that was always neg. for strep) and fatigue . Our doctor started him on Tagament last month and we were very upset when his next episode came 17 days later when they were usually 25-35 days apart. He said he wanted to give it at least 6 to 8 weeks on the Tagement. So now I feel like we are just a ticking time bomb and could fever at any point! Our doctor said he want to use removing the tonsils as a last resort! So our treatment consist of Tagement twice a day and steriods (for one day) and pray that this does some good! Guest guest
My son had from about age 2 (diagnosed at age 3) to 5.9 (he was almost 6, when we had his T & A). We had tried the tagamet to no avail. I'm thankful to be able to say, he has been fever free since the surgery. (He's had maybe a FEW - 1 or 2 - episodes over the years... (actually within the last year now) but nothing like the regular intervals of every 41 days for 5 days with a scorching high fever. Now they are like highest fever is 101 and lasts about 3 days. He's 12 now. And is able to participate in normal activities... such as football, baseball, and no interruptions for school. We are SO glad to be done with his fevers (for the most part - we are 'charting' again, but so far no patterns again that I can tell). I am still VERY interested in this syndrome and still stay in the group to stay informed of any new developments, perhaps. Best of luck to you and your child. Hope it works for you as it did for us. Guest guest
Hi Mutlu, We are trying to find out which PFS our son Tyler (16 months) has. The Rheumatologist we were referred to is testing for cyclic neutropenia through blood tests, and using DNA testing for some of the other syndromes. Even though his development is great, she doesn't want to just leave it at because symptoms in young children usually begin milder and get worse as they get older if it is one of the other syndromes. We were just recently prescribed Naproxen liquid for Tyler. He takes 125mg twice a day (12 hours apart). His last two episodes have been much milder on it. Normally he ran 104-105 fevers, had vomitting, wouldn't eat solid food, etc. Now his high is 102.4 temp, no vomitting, solid food the whole time. Naproxen is the ingredient in the over the counter Aleve, another anti-inflammatory. I supplement with tylenol in between the Naproxen during his episodes. The MD said that in some cases this medicine has stopped episodes in starting if taken daily as a preventative. It didn't stop Tyler's, but it is a huge improvement. Best Wishes Pruden mother to Tyler (16 months) undetermined PFS Lake County, California (Northern) USA > > Hi everybody, > I am new to this group. My son is 34 months old. Guest guest
Sorry it has taken so long to figure out what is wrong with your Cole. My son and many of the little ones have the exact same symptoms. The sore throat, stomach pain, leg (ankle, knee, shin) pain, headache, swollen lymph nodes, etc. My son started at 8 months old. We started tracking at 2 when we caught on to the cycles. I got lucky by accidentaly finding some info about periodic fevers on the internet. My doctor was familiar with it too when we moved and got a new pediatrician. Fran (our wonderful modorator for this site) says to get genetic testing done just to make sure it's and not a genetic periodic disorder. There is lots of info on this in the files. We just started with blood work for inflammatory markers during and not during fevers. It's never as bad as the worries before the blood tests. My advice...keep a journal of dates and symptoms and read, read, read on this site. And then give your baby lots of cuddles and love! As for growinf out of it...it seems like breaks are always a blessing and often short lived, but I think most of us are wondering the same thing...does it end like the docs say? Guest guest
. If you don't mind me asking,,,,,,,how did you know your son was dyslexic? When did you first "wonder"......... Thanks, Robin Lucas <lucas3mom@...> wrote: Hi everyone, I am new to this group. I joined because I suspected that my 19 year old niece has Aspergers syndrome. I have a dyslexic son and actually discovered Aspergers on my dyslexic group and thought I would check it out. My neice seems to have a lot of the symptoms of Aspergers. Talked at normal age, graduated high school. Very smart. But has such a hard time socially. Prefers to play with younger kids. Prefers most of the time to play with one kid. They usually play a game or they help her make jewelery. She makes jewelery all the time, sells it (actually very good at it) and is taking an on-line jewelry class right now. She has struggled to have friends. My brother and sister-in-law adopted her as a baby. So I thought I would join so we could learn more about this syndrome. I thought maybe it would help explain wht she does some of the things she does, and maybe help them realize that it is not something that they did or did not do. Thanks for any encouragement!!
