Guest guest
hi If you don't mind telling, I would like to hear what kind of side-effects you got from taking the prednisone. We've only given it to our daughter once and I couldn't see any side effects but then as you say it was once and a relatively small dose. All the best for you and your daughter. is scary but better knowing what you're dealing with than being told again and again that your child is picking up viruses. We've all been told that for the first months I think and us mothers get suspicious long before the doctors seem to! Take care Inga new to the group Hi, I am . My six year old daughter has been dealing with all of the symptoms of for a full year now. After being seen at her primary doctor numerous times, and being unresponsive to antibiotics, also being told she was just getting virus after virus I was worried and not convinced that was the issue. She was seen at St. Louis Childrens Hospital a couple of weeks ago and had some tests run. We then went back yesterday while she was in the midst of the symptoms and she fit to a T. It is good to finally have a name for what she has been going through, but scarey non-the-less. The doctor who saw her specializes in infectious disease and he will be talking to the team the specializes in today just to make sure they don't want to run any additional tests. Madisyn missed a lot of school because of this, so I am hoping the prednisone does the trick for her. I have been on pred many times myself for different reasons and although it is a wonder drug, the side effects can be brutal. I was thinking perhaps those wont occur with her due to it being a small controlled dose every time her fever returns, which at this point in time is every 3 weeks. I am glad to have found this group and looking forward to learning and sharing information with you all. . ___________________________________________________________ is the world's favourite email. Guest guest
Inga, Thanks for your kind words. I actually have taken quite a lot of pred over the years. By side effects there are really no immediate ones other than the puffiness it causes and in myself irritability. I was talking more of the long term. It can cause some issues with bone weakening and I personally gained a lot of weight from taking it. Also because it has an effect on the immune system I am more succeptible to skin issues such as boils and some unwanted hair growth. I do think that all comes with the high doses I have been on. I am so glad that prednisone seems to work for the patients with and will of course be trying that when my daughters next cycle hits in a couple of weeks. I am obviously not educated enough to state all the effects the drug may have, I was just speaking of my own personal experience with it. > > hi > If you don't mind telling, I would like to hear what kind of side- effects you got from taking the prednisone. Guest guest
Thanks, Colleen. I'm trying. Its hard. I mean, I got up the nerve to write and kinda spill my guts and admit to being overwhelmed with loneliness, and i've received a lot of responses and people saying they'd be glad to play with me on pogo. but, I'm really shy about meeting people, so I think I've only actually talked to one person - and that was on IM - and I think she IM'd me. sigh but, there are several people that we're PMing, and I'm trying to get my nerve up to message somebody who let me add them to their Pogo friends list and say hey. thanks for the encouragement. amy In a message dated 6/20/2007 4:16:03 P.M. Guest guest
HI cindy, not sure of your fitness level but cathe friedrich has basic step/body fusion. basic step is just that and body fusion is step/strength the dvd also has 3 segments(upper, lower, and abs). they use tubing but i think somebody modfies by doing all weights. they also sell this whole set with step, tube, weights, ball and videos at target for $40 or you can see her site http://www.cathe.com and they ahve a long video clip. also at collage they label videos by choreography, impact level(low, high or mixed) and fitness level and also have clips. i am not good with low impact in that what i think what is low impact might be to much for some LOL. guess thats where most differ. hope to hear more about ya. kassiactribucher <ctribucher@...> wrote: . Guest guest
Thanks Kassia! I'm definitely not ready for Cathe. I've heard that her workouts are for more advanced exercisers. I would rate myself as a beginner most days and intermediate on good days. I hope to get up to Cathe's levels soon... unless she has a workout for folks at my level? > . Guest guest
http://www.shopcathe.com/Basic_Step_Body_Fusion_DVD_p/639.htm i haven't done body fusion but i did do basic step when a promo dvd came with my step. VERY low impact and very basic. denise austin is pretty beginner/intermediate and kathy smith has more intermediate level. there is also the biggest loser workouts where everybody is working at their own level. the second dvd is more programmable with more, but shorter, segmented workouts including some interval boot camp workouts.the prevention workouts are pretty good. i subscribe to netflix so i am always trying workouts to post for the group.i have tracey mallett's renew you dvds coming in soon they blend cardio dance, yoga, pilates, and ballet. that might be a good option too. kassia ctribucher <ctribucher@...> wrote: Thanks Kassia!I'm definitely not ready for Cathe. Guest guest
Hi! Just wanted to post a quick hello! I also live in the D.C. area - although I moved here from the north - I live in land - how about you? Could it be that you might have just needed to vary the cardio you were doing with the FIRM Workouts. For some, all that stepping could be a killer, so it may be possible for you to go back to doing the FIRM a few times a week and alternating with another activity the rest of the time. Anyway, good to meet you! Donna --- ctribucher <ctribucher@...> wrote: > Hello! I just joined the group and wanted to > introduce myself. Guest guest
Hi ! Welcome!! I'm from Michigan! I do almost all low impact stuff because of knee issues. One of my favorites for cardio and strength building, with a lot of help and encouragement from this group I'll add, is Kathy 's Power Walk for Weight Loss Matrix. This is low impact sort of floor aerobics/sort of walking (it is mostly doing a mambo though she refers to as walking) with dumb bells. You're constantly moving and a lot of the time you're moving around using the dumb bells for lots of upper body strength training. It is an excellent workout with standing abs work too and a good stretch at the end. Kathy, if you're not familiar with her, tends to scream a bit (not at you, just weird, annoying vocalizations) but if you can get past that then I think this is an excellent workout. I'm looking for more like it, combining low impact cardio and toning too so I'll be looking for others' responses to your post! Sansone's walking videos can be done using hand weights too. The Express series uses a resistance band for upper body work while you're walking. I am a huge fan because you can work as hard or as light as you want with these and especially with the Walk Slim and 4 Mile Advanced Express walk you can get a great cardio workout with very low impact (Walk Slim has some jogging intervals in two of the workouts but they are optional and shown with modifiers doing both walking and jogging moves). This is an AWESOME group that will give you tons of ideas, answers to questions and ways to spend money on workout videos! I'm glad you've joined us, feel free to jump in on any of the many conversations, post questions, ideas and of course, your workouts, we'll all look forward to reading about them!! New to the Group Hello! I just joined the group and wanted to introduce myself. Myname is and I recently moved to North Carolina from theWashington, DC area.In the past, I had used the Firm/Transfirmer/Fanny Lifter workout DVDsbut stopped doing them because the impact was killing my knees. Guest guest
Oh I wish you wouldn't have told me I could get this set at Target! :-) I'm at Target way too often lately and will have to look for it and hopefully restrain myself... I really want this video but DH is switching to once a month paychecks (our last bi weekly one is June 30 then we have to wait until July 27) next month and I'm very concerned about how it is going to work out for us so I'm watching pennies like crazy so no $40 workouts (or $20 or anything else close). Guest guest
Welcome, ! For weights I really like the Jari Love Get Ripped series, which you can find cheap at Ross. They are gym style weight training workouts with little if no impact and you choose how heavy or light to lift. Do post your workouts and review them - we value your opinion and you help others become better consumers! Cheers, Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile Re: New to the Group Hi !  Welcome!! Guest guest
In another note I suggest Sansone and Kathy for you. I'm probably mostly intermediate at this point in terms of my overall fitness level but in terms of coordination I'm a mega beginner! :-) especially is super simple choreography but still very fun, very low impact and easily modified in terms of intensity by adding hand weights, making bigger motions with arms, etc. or not doing those things when she suggests them. She is a super encouraging instructor too. Kathy is more intense (her personality and her workouts) but they are also very good. More intermediate than beginner. I do some step aerobics and get lost very easily on choreography so I've avoided Cathe primarily for that reason but I've heard so many good things about Basic Step + Body Fusion from this group and reviews at collagevideo.com that I've put this at the top of my wish list. I'm pretty sure I can handle the speed of it, which is lower than most of her stuff I hear, and want it for the cardio and strength combination. I'll probably stuggle with some of the choreography in the step segments but that's just me, I struggle with all choreography! I think, with a little practice, I'll be able to handle those and that is saying a lot for me (and speaks to how how low in complexity these appear to be). You can see a clip of it at www.collagevideo.com. It looks MUCH less intimidating than most of her other stuff. If it looks reasonable for me, I'm pretty sure it would be reasonable for someone used to doing Firm workouts! :-) Let me know what you think if you decide to check it out! Re: New to the Group Thanks Kassia!I'm definitely not ready for Cathe. I've heard that her workouts arefor more advanced exercisers. Guest guest
Whoa! I checked these out... These look excellent! I think Kathy 's Lift Weights to Lose Weight and Tamilee Webb's I Want That Body will continue to work well enough for me for now but wow, these look so good. Why is it when I really want to save money that I find even MORE tempting ways to spend it?! I can see doing Get Ripped... but it will wait... Thanks for suggesting these (to but I'm listening in), I think anyway! New to the Group > > > > Hello! I just joined the group and wanted to introduce myself. Guest guest
I second the Get Ripped series by Jari Love. I've done the first, Get Ripped, and am planning on doing Get Ripped 1000 tomorrow. I've heard lots of good things about Get Ripped Slim & Lean but haven't tried that one yet, planning on later this week. You might try your library for workout videos to see what you like before buying. Most of the ones I tried were from the library. I also really like pilates and yoga for toning as well. Not much of a cardio fan, I have an elliptical for that. For a faster paced, decent upper body pilates workout, try MTV Pilates Mix. There are are 2 30 minute routines and a short bonus workout. I didn't care much for 1 or 2 segments in routine 2, but really liked routine 1 and the bonus workout. > > Welcome, ! > > For weights I really like the Jari Love Get Ripped series, which you can find cheap at Ross. They are gym style weight training workouts with little if no impact and you choose how heavy or light to lift. > > Do post your workouts and review them - we value your opinion and you help others become better consumers! > > Cheers, > > Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile > > Re: New to the Group > > > Hi ! > Â > Welcome!! > Â > Sansone's walking videos can be done using hand weights too. > Â > This is an AWESOME group that will give you tons of ideas, answers to questions and ways to spend money on workout videos! > Â > I'm glad you've joined us, feel free to jump in on any of the many conversations, post questions, ideas and of course, your workouts, we'll all look forward to reading about them!! > Â > > Â > New to the Group > > > > Hello! Guest guest
Hi Chad, I am a newbie, but could tell you that the Happy Herbalist prefers organic sugar. See: http://happyherbalist.com/kombucha_brewing_guide.htm The only thing I could find against using decaf was a post that said about the chemicals used to decaf the tea. I just tried a green tea decaf and I don't know if it was the problem (so many possibilities), but it never fully fermented. I read a post, not here I don't think, that said it was ok to use Lipton, because the staples are stainless steel. If that's the case, Lipton advertises that it is naturally decaf'd. Of course, the pro's could tell you better. I sure wish one of them would come on and advise me whether to dump all of my brew or not. jan > > I ordered my first SCOBY from Anahata Balance & Organic-Kombucha. Guest guest
Oh yeah, some say you don't know what's in the organic sugar since it hasn't been processed, so you don't know what you are adding to your brew. jan > > I ordered my first SCOBY from Anahata Balance & Organic-Kombucha.
