Guest guest
Unfortunately Liz, this was not a happy occassion. We attended the funeral of our 35 year old nephew. He grew up with our kids and would visit us while he was in the Navy and other times also. It was very difficult and I must admit this morning when I tried to do the LL, I started getting chest pains and after trying several times the pains kept coming while I was holding my breath so I didn't try anymore. I know the deep breathing would probably help my stress so I will try again. I am back at work today because I need to keep busy. I am a librarian at a middle school of 1550 students, so no trouble trying to keep busy! Iva stevku@... wrote: Hi Iva, You're very welcome! Guest guest
Cheers!! I just raised my beer to the computer screen. It ISa great group of people. Even if I don't chime in on things sometimes, I enjoy reading all your emails. I hope everyone has a wonderful snowy " white " Christmas and a safe " green " New Years Eve. The snow can leave right after Christmas as far as I'm concerned. Just have to tell you, my sales have picked up immensely this week. Have a big basket of " goodies " at (2) hair salons and a craft store. Both hairdressers told me my stuff was " flying " out of their shops. Too bad it won't stay that way all year. But there's always hope, right? I'm going to hit the gift shops at the beginning of the year and see what happens. That is, if I can conjure up the nerve. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!! M. Thank YOU Ugh...sent this to the wrong addy and it bounced.... Over the past few days I've gotten a few emails both on and off the list thanking me for having such a wonderful list. I can't take the credit here.....everyone involved with this list is what makes it work. Everyone has put nothing but good into it and in return good comes back. So to make this short and not sound sappy....Thank you to everyone for making this list the best it can be! Happy and Safe Holidays everyone! *raising my soda can to the computer screen* Here's to a very prosperous Soapy New Year! Guest guest
, Me too, gift shops that is. I think I might sit down and try and update a brochure to go with it today... unless I get distracted doing something else. Been thinking maybe that should be my goal for 2001 to try and get in gift shops locally. Got to go out on a day when I'm feeling nervy. Congratulations on the hair salon sales!!!! Wooohoooo!!! Guest guest
Yes, Terri, thanks for having a good list. Shaye/ -- on the gift shops. I've become really into wholesaling through shops/salons, and I like it SO much more than doing shows (although I do shows for fun). What I have learned is this: 1) make appointments. Don't go in cold because you won't get the attention you deserve. You'll probably be brushed off (had it happen; not cool!). And go in as a business person. I wore my best interview dress and heels. 2) go equipped with a nice presentation. For the Christmas account I did up here, I went armed with a gift basket presentation (not that they wanted to buy any..but...), a sample of each of my soap molds (if you do molded soap), a lotion sample, a sample of my bath salts, and sniffy-samples of each scent that I carried. I wasn't expecting any kind of sale -- at best the promise of a " we'll get back to you " - -but she bought almsot $400 (wholesale) on the spot. 3) If you do multiple items, such as lotion, fizzies, salts AND soaps, push the fact that people like to buy sets (at least my customers do). 4) Be enthusiastic about your top sellers. I specifically bring bigger samples of my top 5 sellers. 5) Unfortunately, the best time to court retailers in gift shops is in September/October (they tell me the rest of the season is slow). Salons, however, are great because their clientele is constantly purchasing. I love my two salon acounts in NV -- I get reorders every 8 weeks. 6) Don't get discouraged! I know it's so easy to get that way. I learned to get tough skin while I was acting and writing books. You get LOTS of rejections before you get a " yes " . Last year I went to 6 shops before I got a 'yes'. The 'yes' was shop number 6. Happy holidays! Golden Northern Scentsations http://northernscentsations.tripod.com > , Me too, gift shops that is. Guest guest
Thanks, G. for your info. We're both on the same wave length. That's exactly what I had planned on doing.....the basket, samples, list of scents offered, also. I also have a lot of different containers for my bath salts & keep coming up with new ones. I don't know if I mentioned it or not, but a few weeks ago I popped into the Dollar Tree store and they had a mess of new " cut glass " small bowls with lids in different shapes for $1.00 I instantly pictured them sitting in a pretty bathroom. You know how colors reflect inside cut glass? I haven't offered them for sale yet and I wouldn't take them to craft shows for the mere fact that they'd be too heavy to carry. I really like offering containers that can also be used for other things if they don't want to keep using it for bath salts. Do you all have " dollar stores " around you? I've been to many different ones but I REALLY love the Dollar Tree. I'm always finding great things. I picked up so many Christmas themed holders to make " gift baskets " out of. They sold like crazy.....red & green wicker sleighs, red plaid plump handled baskets with little bells attached....I bought every one off the shelf & haven't got one left. I'd put about 4 items in them, cover them with shrink wrap and was able to sell them for $10 - $15. BIG profit in them!! Any how, sales have been great. M. Guest guest
We have a dollar tree-type store near us. Ok...a half hour away. Then, again, everything is a half hour away from us. I've been, once again, looking into different product presentation. I liked the way you packed your fizzies for the swap. I think that's the main reason I enter them -- to get ideas for packaging. After reading Shaye's info yesterday I went and checked her site. Very neat! Two changes I plan to make next year: I may play around for more of a homespun look in tying off the cello bags; different packaging for bath salts. They are in cello bags now, which is fine if you're not shipping. I need to find an inexpensive container -- so I'm hunting around sks and some other packaging suppliers. I reeeeally like www.us-box (or something like that). Their packaging is gorgeous (boxes and bags), but their minimum is high. Maybe when we all converge for a gathering we can pool our money to make the $150 minimum. Happy holidays! Guest guest
I can't believe that the bank didn't just help you. As long as you bring in the money to cover the checks, they should have some compassion for you. Aren't they human?? Or is your bank run by automatons... Lee P.S. They will never find you here, and probably not at Jessi's farm. We are your safest bets for now!!! LOL. Queenie will love having your tent in the backyard. michellefour4@... wrote: About a year ago, I reported a check book lost or stolen and had the account closed. Well, this weekend, I went shopping for my needed necessities I wrote out check after check....actually, I have been writing a lot of checks, you know paying the bills and all. This morning I noticed the account number was from the closed account! Needless to say, I called the bank and they told me that they might consider this to be fraud! HELP! LOL! I think the brain tumor is acting up again! Thanks for all the offers of adopting me. I think I will make my rounds to everyone's home. Gonna need to hide out for a while. Hon get to bank in PERSON and show them your new and old book, b e prepared to pay back the bill money in to the correct account + a charge, this sounds as if it is an honest error, don't hide and run as this enforces their opinion of you at this moment, you will be okay you see. I had somethng like that with Unemployment Insurance, I forgot one week that I had worked 3 days and claimed 4, well I got a letter saying that I would lose 16 days, this was last DEC that I made this errorI called the office to see if I had made that error, I had, so I wrote to UEI apologising and enclosed a check for the overpayment, end of story, no loss of benefits, They could have hung me by the- oops I don't have them! Remember fess up and be honest about it, then they have no fuel. Anne ~~~~
